Savannah's a nice place, but it's small and seems to have its fair share of perps. That certainly increases the risk of running into people you've locked up. If you don't like going into the city you work in now, the same thing might happen there. I've also heard from several people who live/lived in Savannah that River Street and the surrounding area get old pretty quickly and the nightlife shouldn't be your sole motivation for living in Savannah. It's a great city, but it's pretty darn small, so you need to be prepared for that. -
I work for Savannah Chatham Metro PD, and I'm not from the area at all (originally). I moved down here four years ago with the army, and loved the area so much that I stayed once I got out. I do not work the downtown area; I work mid town which is where 80% of the city's population is concentrated. Although it has a small town feel, there's plenty of big city crime to keep you occupied. Most people use the department as a stepping stone to bigger and better things, but there are plenty on the department who've been here their whole career and do not plan to leave. As far as running into people you've arrested, a lot of the officers do not live in the city, but instead live in the burbs. I personally have seen people I arrested, but it's been in situations where I should've expected to see them, ala a high school football game in the area where I work.
If you decide to work down here, you can always ask for a precinct that doesn't patrol the city limits... we are a combined City and County police, so you don't have to patrol the city if you do not want toOverall, I'm happy with my job and I still really enjoy the city. I don't mean to paint a rosey picture, but I actually do love my situation down here. The PD is about 650 officers, give or take, and it is responsible for Chatham County as well as the city of Savannah... save some small municipalities within the county that have their own PD.

For all who want to apply for Savannah Pd right now............
Do not waste your time or resources unless you are Post certified. They are DQ everyone that is not certified for bogus reasons. Great dept but they say they are hiring for certified and non certified but that is not the case at the moment. Just my two cents............Atheist achieving orgasm: Oh Random! Oh, Chance!
