Like SaltyDog I wouldn’t risk showing up with facial hair. I started trimming my beard earlier this year to get used to it just in case I made it through. Since I made it, I will definitely be clean shaven the day we report. And yes, they have a general order to allow facial hair no longer than a half inch I think, don’t quote me on that.

ETA: Facial hair, clean shaven. As far as hair on your head, I've had nothing but high and tight since 1990. I am coming from corrections and our rules are "off the ears and off the collar". I can only make the assumption that FWC will be similar once you are in the field. During the academy I would say a high fade would be your best bet.

I called my recruiter for some additional insight on a few things. Still 2 recruits to a dorm. I brought up that an officer recommended bringing our own sheets, pillows, and getting a mattress topper for the beds. I also asked if he recommended wearing a suit the day we report. He was on the fence about that. Just because of the fact of how much running around we are going to do that day. I also asked if it would be good to show up super early. He recommended doing so based on his academy experience but he said things are different now. So he’s going to ask and get back to me

I’ll be showing up the morning of the 18th to look around and see exactly where we will be showing up to. I also would like to know how to show up, like, what’s appropriate, jeans and a shirt or khakis and a polo?

Yeah I’m right there with you man. I think classroom 116 is in the smaller building to the SE. But I don’t know for sure. I’m wearing my suit. I was also told to bring some additional business casual clothes

So I’ve scrolled through this entire thread last night to get some real first hand insight on the hiring process. I’m glad i found this, it’s answered a lot of questions for me. Thank you to everyone in here that posted or commented. It’ll help a lot of people like me in the future. I got my application in before the end of November and now I’m submitting the supplemental app. So with any luck I’ll be in the next group to be playing the waiting game, checking my emails every 5 minutes. Anyone else care to share what county they’ll be working in? So far I only noticed Collier and Monroe county.

I’m not an expert on tactical boots but I’ve heard you can’t go wrong with either bates or 5.11. One of my friends told me to check out the Nike ones but I purchased the bates

Under armor boots are pretty comfortable and a lot of cops wear them. That’s what I wore. Never had any regrets.

These are for your dress uniforms. I'll be going with the round nose boot, but man those things can get spendy for a good pair.

Nope. The worst I’ve had was CS gas in basic training.

I've taken 3 level one exposures and 1 to get on the RRT with the "big can". Coming from Corrections, "gas" gets used a lot. Most of the time in a reactionary, you're going to get it on you as well.
