Coral Springs PD

Hi all. I'm a life long New Jersey resident; however, after graduating college this spring I am planning on moving to SW Florida to be closer to extended family. I've searched the forum and read their website from top to bottom for information on Coral Springs PD and haven’t seen a whole lot besides the basics. Any Coral Springs Officers on the board that can shed some light on the department, the area, and number of vacancies? Thanks for your help!

Are you sure you dont mean Cape Coral? Cape Coral is in SW Florida. Coral Springs I think is on the east coast. If you do mean Cape Coral, I'm in the hiring process with them right now after recieving a conditional offer and can probably give you some info.

Coral Springs and Cape Coral are both always hiring. I moved to Florida like 4 years ago and noticed them hiring, 4 years later they are STILL hiring, and im back here in PA and i see yet again they are still hiring. Do they have retention problems? Doesnt look for the dept to always be hiring officers.

You'll see that A LOT of departments in Florida are always hiring. It isn't necessarily a problem of retention. A lot of times it's a case of if the city is growing, and if the tax base is growing, then the department is growing. The good ole "if this and this then this" rule.

I dont believe Cape Coral has retention problems, but couldnt say for sure because I wont start with them till July( if all goes well). I believe the reason theyre still hiring is because in the last 4 yrs. the city has grown immensely. They need alot of new officers to keep up with the growing population and to keep crime low.

in broward county, they have a good reputation,...

a lot of cop's jump ship from sunrise police dept to

coralsprings, sheriff's office, davie,pembroke pines

they also have a contract where they have to be within the top 3
as far as pay.

I have a friend who works at Coral Springs P.D and he enjoys it. Coral Springs is relatively a safe, suburban community. It's MOSTLY a middle/upper-middle class neighborhood. There are some rough parts in the north, but for the most part it's safe. It was ranked in the top 10 safest cities in the country last year.

They work 12 hour shifts with every other Fri/Sat/Sun off. They have a good pension program and, by contract, must be in the top 3 highest paid departments out a specific list they have.

Coral springs is the cleanest hood I've ever lived at. Not only does it have underground phone cables to not expose wires and clutter the city, the buses, and landscape are great.

I myself reside in Coral Springs. If you plan on purchasing a house or condo, plan on spending 200k+. It's not cheap to live here at all. Renting varies and a two bedroom apt goes anywhere from 1100 to 1400 a month.

As for the PD, I think they're pretty good. I haven't had any problems with them and personally know a few of the officers. Good place to live for the most part, with the exception of housing. Goodluck!

Good department, crime isn't too bad and they pay pretty well, only draw back is that from what I hear you must live within the city to get a take home car. Check on that though, good luck to you.

I'd just like to thank everyone for the information youve provided. I'll be coming down to the area in mid May to take the CJBAT, BAT, and Swim test. After that, time to start putting applications in. I guess I'll have to check out the area for myself while I'm down there! Condo's and apartments from what Ive seen look like a steal compaired to Northern NJ. One bedroom where I am now go for 1200-1500 a month depending on the town.
