My current goal is to become an officer at Miami Dade but I have read that its under a hiring freeze, are there other departments in Miami I could apply to like south beach or Miami beach

Coral Gables Police is hiring certified and non certified. Miami Dade Schools police is hiring certified only. Florida Highway Patrol is always hiring certified and non certified. I think Miami Beach PD may hire soon
Unfortunately it's not going very well for Miami Dade PD. The mayor wants to lay off 400+ officers and disband over a dozen specialized units while also lowering pay and benefits while giving himself and his close friends huge bonuses. I applied in February 2013 and have not been called.
