  • Certified without a Job?

There's a security company in Miami Dade called 50 states hiring guards for the metro rail starting pay is $13.50 an hour with 10 hr shifts and lots of overtime, must be certified if not they won't hire you. This is just FYI..

I'm assuming by "certified" they mean certified with an armed guard license?

Well, by certified he meant someone right out of the academy with no police experience. Someone that self sponsored themselves.

like i said, the way things are going around here, thats not bad if you throw in some OT to survive at least.

You have to remember just because you passed the Academy and the State Exam dosen't make you certified mush less a LEO. You NOT certified until you get hired by a Law Enforcement Agency. Passing the state exam just makes you "certifiable". If you haven't gotten hired yet $13.50 looks pretty good in this economy.

+1... it's better to do that since it's somewhat/somehow related vs. doing something completely unrelated...

50 state is one among many companies in MDC that have been awarded county contracts. Allied Barton pays around $17-19/hr, Security Alliance was just awarded a DHS contract and the pay for that contract is $21+. Look hard and you'll find something decent until you are hired by a LE agency.

so do they mean certified as in LEO certified, or security guard certified, or both?

It depends on the employer... a lot of them take a D (unarmed) or G license (armed pays more) so you don't necessarily need to be a P.O., but some only prefer LEOs or certified... regardless the pay goes up w/ experience if you find the right company... lots out there. Not for everybody.

The way it works is: You went and got the academy done and you passed the state exam then you are a certified LEO. Now, in order for you to work then you have to be sworn in with an agency to do the job as a LEO in another words you need to be hired as a full-time, part-time or reserved.

Wackenhut will hire you if you are an academy grad. They will pay your "D" and "G" license training and gradually deduct the fees from your checks. To work in any Miami-Dade County contract, you need a minimum of a year of security experience in addition to any academic/military/LE experience you may have. You'll need a "D" to work unarmed posts and a "D" and "G" to work armed.
