i honestly think there is more to it then just the "budget cuts", i mean so soon and so quickly like that???...sounds a little fishy to me and i have a lot of MDPD friends who feel the same way.

    Miami-Dade Police director retiring

BY JENNIFER LEBOVICH crline [email protected]
Miami-Dade police Director Robert ``Bobby'' Parker is retiring after more than five years at the helm of Florida's largest police department, officials said Friday.

Assistant Director James Loftus will serve as interim director.

Rumors of Parker's retirement were circulating for weeks around county hall and at police headquarters in Doral, but as late as last week Parker had declined to talk about his future plans.

Parker is a 33-year department veteran and will step down, effective Sunday, sources told the Herald.

Parker's successor will be decided by County Mayor Carlos Alvarez, who was the police director before Parker took the job over in 2004.

Alvarez left the position in April 2004 to run for county mayor.
