  • help with Miami please

Hey guys, heading down to Miami from New York in October for the first time ever to take a polygraph. Ive decided to make a little trip out of it. Besides hitting the beach is there anything that you guys recommend doing? Or things that "you can't go to Miami without doing.....". Sights, restaurants, whatever. Thanks

Easy guys, I'm going with my girlfriend plus strip clubs are no fun, a lot of money for a tease. Secondly, I haven't picked a hotel yet, probably in the city close to the testing site.

Damn, I was going to suggest the LEXXX on 27th ave, it's close to Miami-Dade College North, I'm playing...

Are you going to take the poly for the city of Miami or Miami Dade county?...

Right now tourism is down, so you might get a few good deals, try Miami Beach, since you want to make a trip out of it, you and your girlfriend would have fun there...From there you can venture out into Miami Beach, the city of Miami, or where ever else you want to go to...

Now watch it............... Lexx is not such a safe zone. You could get jacked lol. Diamondz get loaded with cops on a daily basis. But yes Miami Beach aka South Beach is the best.

For Stripclubs I suggest Tootsies or Scarletts, they're the best.
For nightlife (clubs, lounges, and bars) stick with South Beach! You can even go to Madonnas a strip joint in the beach, not the best but it's something! Enjoy your stay and be safe!

Patriot... how about a round of golf in Doral?
Or... some tennis in Key Biscayne?

If you have enough time you can stop by Key West... seriously.
You'll be completely relaxed if you both stay down there for 2 days.
**Driving into the keys from Miami only takes a few hours... unless you stop here and there at the local spots**

                    http://www.pierhouse.com/

The link above is for a spa and resort... right in the heart of key west. 112.25 through 176.25 per night - depending on the view! AND... tourism is down, indeed. Perhaps you can get a package upgraded at a discount. There are many many specials on now... even in Miami... just google around!

Good luck w/ the process and the trip!!

Well, what are you guys into? Clubs, dancing, sightseeing, parks, outdoors??

One sure bet: if you're coming with the girlfriend then a night in Coconut Grove will be great. There are nice restarurants, and you can have dinner outside, there's also some shops, and it's nice to walk around a bit, although it's a small area.

If you guys are into the outdoors, then you can spend a day in the Everglades (although personally for me, it's one of those places that you visit only once...kind of overrated).

For hanging outdoors, without having to drive all the way to the Everglades, there is a great botanical park called Fairchild Tropical Garden, if you're into having picnics and hanging outside, play some frisbee and stuff (Central Park in summer kind of thing....).

Oh, South Miami is really happening right now, it's kind of the same thing as Coconut Grove, lots of restaurants and shops....

For clubs and bars (the regular kind, not strip clubs) you can't go wrong with South Beach, but be prepared to spend some dough, 'cause everything is overpriced there IMO.

Oh a lot of people don't know that there is a winery here in Miami (actually more like in the south, the Redlands). It's called Schnebly's, and they sell wind made from tropical fruits like Mango, Lychee, etc. You can take a tour if you want- or not, it's a small place- and you can have tastings for a fee of $6.00 or so. And of course afterwards you can buy the ones you like. It's an allright experience, mainly something different and out of the ordinary.

But like I said, if you tell us what you guys like to do we can give you better ideas.

Then dont forget that we have the Metro Zoo here ( http://www.miamimetrozoo.com/index.asp ) which is pretty nice, especially now that they have a huge new part devoted to the Tropical Rain Forest. Haven't seen the new exhibit but someone who went told me it's excellent. If you go plan on spending several hours, as there is a lot to see.

For seafood reastaurants by the water, there is one called Monty's on the Bay in coconut grove, kind of large and commercial but pretty good food, they also have happy hours with seafood buffets and sometimes live music. It's right next to the marina, pretty nice ambiance.

If you have time, you may want to go down to the keys, perhaps not Key West (4 hrs. or so drive from Miami) but Key Largo (2 hrs.) Haven't been down there in a while but there should be nice restaurants there and plenty of things to do by the water (diving, boating, fishing trips, etc.).

BTW, Miami Beach is not the only beach here, if you want a calmer environment (plus a beach where you can actually find a place to park your car and not have to walk 5 miles to the sand) a place I go with the wife is down at Bill Baggs state park ( http://www.floridastateparks.org/capeflorida/ ). It's all the way in the southern tip of Key Biscayne, and it's definitely worth a visit. There are even trails to hike or bike ride (on the western end) and you can even rent kayas I believe.

On the way to Bill Baggs, in Key Biscayne, you will pass by a large public beach on your left side called Crandon Park- skip it. Noisy, dirty, crowed..forget about it. Keep driving straight south, you will pass Key Biscayne proper, and just when you think you are at the end and maybe missed Bill Baggs there at the end of the road is the entrance to the park. I think it's $5 fee or something, can't remember. Once you go in, if you want a quieter beach environment within the park, make a left (east) about a quater mile after the entrance- don't go all the way to the end by the lighthouse, can be fairly crowded and noisy. On the linked map, it is the first area on the east after the entrance. Bring a cooler with food and drinks, the only places on the park to eat and drink are few and far between, and with a markup.

                          http://www.floridastateparks.org/cap...oridaSPmap.jpg

P.S. there is another place in Miami to visit, it's in downtown, it's called Bayside Marketplace (think South Street Seaport...kind of). It's touristy and somewhat cheesy, but good for a one-time visit, right by the water, with boats parked right on the quay. Lot's of souvenir shops and several places to eat, including a Hooters on the second floor.
