i just don't know how they think by taking away these jobs its going to keep Broward County's Public Safety and "turn around" programs up and running and keeping the streets safe. i think these commissioners are going to shoot themselves in the foot and then turn around and blame it on the Sheriff when its not even him that did it. GRRRRRRR i hate politics for this reason!!

Hate the politics too, we all know anything safety related they sure as well will blame Lamberti even if they forced him to be short handed.

so it's got nothing to do with the local politicians who have their little pet programs and who don't cut their little funding for the arts projects and bs like that, instead cut the fire and police?

well i think its more the local politicians not so much Bush, although he had some hick ups its not all his fault. i blame 95% of it on the local ones because they think by cutting people from their jobs it will save things and then not even 6 months later they are complaining about why the sheriff isn't doing his job. i feel bad for him with all the crap he has to put up with. i give him a lot of credit for his patience and ability to deal with these "representatives of the people".

You can't blame Bush for everything, for the most part Broward county leaders are Democrats...It's the GOP who are supporting BSO...Well on second thought, Jeb Bush sure, but not W...

Chrile Christ is to busy running for a senate seat, so don't expect anything from him...According to Crist everything is ok in Florida...

GOP wants protests over cuts to Sheriff's Office

                  > Posted by Scott Wyman on September 8, 2009 10:42 AM
GOP leaders are encouraging people to turn out for this week’s county government budget hearing to oppose cuts to the Sheriff’s Office – the one agency led by a Republican.

The move comes even though Sheriff Al Lamberti and county commissioners last month worked out a compromise that has him shoulder less than half the level of cuts being made in other agencies. The all-Democrat commission initially wanted Lamberti to slash his spending by $46 million and settled on $21.4 million.

“Please be ready to speak out and support our Sheriff and the BSO,” one e-mail blast said. “We need to show support by filling the Commission Chambers. Bring signs and be ready to speak out on this issue. Your safety is in the County Commission's control. Help the Sheriff KEEP US SAFE.”

The e-mails criticize commissioners for forcing more than 170 layoffs in the Sheriff’s Office and accuse them of trying to close the crime lab and outsource jail operations. The e-mails want the county to raid its cash reserves to cover the deficit created this year by falling property values.

“The County Commissioners want Lamberti to fail,” said another e-mail. “They want another Democrat in that office. The County Commissioners are playing politics.”

The same e-mail adds: “We need to pack this place with support. Bring a sandwich, come to this meeting, bring signs and be ready to speak. Your safety is in the County Commissioner's hands. Let's keep us safe.”

The first of the county’s two budget hearings is at 5 p.m. Thursday in the commission chambers of the Governmental Center in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The second will be on Sept. 22 at the same time and place.

The county doesn't know how to spend money...

I like Charlie and I think that if Lamberti is forced to take his budget to him he will get his way(he did appoint Lamberti after KJ). I have seen Christ at every law enforcement funeral (about 5) that I have been to since he has been in office. I think the guy is as classy and pro LE as they come.

Sheriff Lamberti was first appointed as Sheriff by Gov. Crist. KJ was appointed by Former FL Gov. Lawton Chiles in 1998, I believe.

                            Initially

Al did get appointed as well as he is in good relations with Gov. Crist. We must remember that politics is a tricky thing, granted Al will take the budget cuts to the civilians and detention center but he should really hit the OT budget Fire has. I've personally read what they occur in OT and its not like ours in LE, a majority of Fire OT is not recouped but a majority of LE OT is, my example is the Port. In any case this is my opinion and it could be totally ludicrous but then again I could be totally correct.
