Neither Aurora or Denver are the top paid. Obviously a big city department like Denver will have more off duty employment opportunities so it probably is easier to supplement your income there. There are alot of really good departments in the Front Range. Some that come to mind to me are Westminster, Jefferson County, Douglas County, Lakewood, Thornton, Commerce City (which is currently hiring) and others. Northern Colorado also has some good departments that pay in the same range as the metro area Loveland, Fort Collins, Longmont, Greeley. Aurora and Denver are definitely busy but some of the others listed are also very busy and have alot of opportunity. The economy in Colorado is suffering like the rest of the country so there aren't alot of places hiring right now.

Do you have any recommendations for other departments? I’m definitely not set on those two, just figured they were the 2 busiest / highest paid. I know Lakewood is out due to my not having a BA yet.

If you are set on Denver or Aurora PD you will have to go through a lateral academy, which I would assume takes care of the POST challenge. Aurora I believe is still hiring, but I doubt Denver will be hiring in the near future since they are claiming to be overstaffed and considering laying off 90 something officers. If you decide to consider some of the suburban departments then it would be a wise move to challenge the POST.

It's the 100 question test which worried me. There's a "study test/guide" put out by a local COP which helped me out.
Just remember that if you come out to test from GA, you'll be going from, what, near sea level to a mile high? Better come a couple days early to adjust to the altitude.

Looking for Denver / Aurora officers
Brothers,
My family is looking to relocate to Colorado and I would like to hear the meat & potatoes from current officers (via PM if nesc.) about the good / bad with these depts. Along with decent areas to live. (with a family) so good schools are a key.
Im going to call POST on Tues. to see about obtaining a lateral certification.
Ive got 5 years with Atlanta and my Associates Degree. Still working on BA.
Thank you & Stay safeTags: None
