I love it...not even an earthquake can pry o.commers away from their computer.

This profession is not for people looking for positive reinforcement from the public. Very often it can be a thankless job and you can't desire accolades, because those are not usually forthcoming. Just do your job to the best of your ability and live with the decisions you've made.

Lots of shaking in Newport Beach, but no tsunamis have swamped the house.

Family in Santa Monica say they had a lot of shaking as well.

Phone lines to Topanga appear to be down so I can't get a status report from my G/F.

No kidding! I was in the middle of writing a post on another thread ... and I finished it!

Down here in South OC, I'd say it was like a 4.0 at most. For me, the "big one" was the Sylmar quake of 1971. I lived in Sylmar.

It woke me up, two hours before my alarm... Strongest one I have felt since I moved here in 05. I immediately knew my fellow o.com folks would have a thread started before I could get the computer fired up!

My sister lives in Chino Hills but works in Riverside. Guess I'll wait till later to call her.

Most interesting earthquake experience I ever had was back in the late 60s when a series of 5.0 or so quakes hit Santa Barbara. During one of them I was on the beach. Really weird because there wasn't a sound, since there wasn't anything to rattle. Being on the sand was a bit like being on water with it rising and falling in gentle waves.
