SJPD has trained PAPD entry-level cops for YEARS. With hiring and timing issues, for convenience, PAPD has sent recruits to other academies for training, as well.

Academy washout rate averages 20-30%. SJPD is no different.

Sizmtrz, CA POST "Basic Course Waiver" is the process which addresses out-of-state laterals. We hired a NJ cop that went through the BCW process to meet requirements. One of our Level 2 reserves (under the old "ABC modules") went through the BCW process in order to become Level 1 reserve (which allowed him to go through regular FTO program and hit the streets as a solo beat officer). Conversely, another city officer from Florida (with Military Police experience also) just decided to go through the Academy so he could be up to speed on how CA codes and procedures. There are options.

    Quote from SJPD website.

"Not only do we train our own Police Recruit Officers but we also train recruit police officers from other law enforcement agencies. "

Just to clarify San Jose does have a interagency training agreement and some of the more recent academies (within the last 2.5 years) have had recruits from Los Gatos, Palo Alto, San Bruno, Morgan Hill and I believe Mountain View PD's.

That is what I thought, but when I was there for the PAT someone told me that PAPD utilized SJ and The Academy..

    Thanks

Cool. How long does it take to get to the top step?

Yes, but the apts are still pretty reasonable. Housing should be down quite a bit.

At $100K annual, can you imagine the OT rate they are fetching?
