  • Ammunition sales to LEOs

So I have learned that LEOs still have to go through a background check, and possibly get denied for no reason, to purchase ammo in CA. Before the 2019 law LEOs were able purchase ammunition online with verification of sworn status. With the new ammo laws requiring background checks is it still legal for sworn LEOs to purchase ammunition online and have it shipped to them?

With your department's approval you may order ammo and have it delivered to your department for you. A simple letter from your department certifying that you are employed as a LEO with authority to be armed and allowed to purchase ammo allows the supplier (or manufacturer) to deliver to you via your department address. This will also relieve you of paying the 11% federal excise tax on sporting arms and ammunition.

Same applies to firearms, by the way.

You have had your purchase denied?

either go to your department or work with your local dealer. I won’t just buy ammo online.
