You’d have to be nuts to move to California for a LE job. Or for that matter, any job that pays under a quarter mil a year.

Also, even what where the decent areas that many of the cops/firefighters ect lived are rapidly going to crap.

I live in an area that is patrolled by my agency and where many other cops live....our SEB was out the other days not even a 1/2 mile from my house looking for an armed parolee that had bailed during a compliance check....and that night the airship was in an orbit over my house while the patrol guys where handling a burg in progress right around the corner.

I cannot wait to leave this state and will likely never return once I retire

Something else to consider esp. with SoCal

You can have decent areas to live/good schools ; somewhat affordable housing; a decent (under 2 hours each way) commute

    Choose TWO

Long story short, I went down a rabbit hole and saw the LEOs make decent money at agencies out there, and there are expensive but affordable houses (if you’re willing to drive a bit for the commute). So what’s the deal with CA and the cost? Income tax isn’t too terrible, and sales tax is lower than here. Where do the hits come from? Groceries, gas, utilities, extra government fees...?

Just researching and feeling out right now. Thanks!
Not sure where you live in AZ.?.

I split my time between Southern CA and AZ.

Southern CA=Higher gas prices, longer commutes, some areas you may be "commuting" from have property taxes in the 2%-2.5% range (Mello Roos-Assessments), etc, etc, etc. And, as previously posted, "LIBERAL POLITICS."

Do the math. You probably have it WAY better where you are now. Don't let a vacation or short trip to CA shape your life decisions.

Cruz, thanks for sharing the article!

Sales taxes are a bit higher here, all other taxes are lower, without a doubt. Overall the taxes here pale in comparison to CA lol. Didn’t mean to imply they’re higher here in general lol

Wait, did you say taxes are worse in Arizona?!?‽????

That can’t be true, all I ever hear is how repressive this State’s taxes are.

*and RIPPA isn’t that bad. My Agency has been making us full out this kinda information for all of our car stops for decades.

Honestly, I wouldn't do it. Let alone the high cost of living, dude, the extreme liberal politics make it super hard to do your job. Yes we make good money, but me personally I can't wait to leave this state. Do what you want but if your happy where your at, I would not do it. Oh and lets not mention the commute times and traffic.
