Here is an article about the light. LAPD is getting them so the officers can not use them as clubs.

Ya see, all it takes is a new flashlight for LAPD to get the upper hand in crime fighting. Chief Bratton is my hero.

LOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOOLOL-) "ROTF"-and at $150 a piece ,no doubt=1.5 million to tax payers. When ALL LAPD mgm't had to do was come up with a policy and training for the use of flashlights as "secondary" impact weapons-which LASD would have provided a "model" for them( MUCH cheaper for ,say 1.4 mlllion dollars,if you liberally count the OT training and documentation for it)-so what now? they hit someone with an Autolock baton ,they can still get sued,Taser someone? sued. Bean bag shoot a violent suspect? sued .OC some asthmatic or allergic suspect?-sued; LAPD gets sued just for being "LAPD" -sad,unfair ,but true.but working for the city of L.A.,we'll probably get those flashlights on order too( mainly for the new folks on the job- airports and ports PD issues stream light stingers to officers)
