  • 10851 Pin

I've searched and found a few old threads regarding the CHP/AAA 10851 award. I meet the criteria and am trying to figure out how to apply for the award. I found the following information but I'm not sure if it's current: http://www.wsati.org/10851_pin.pdf I'll give the local CHP office a call tomorrow, but any information posted here would be appreciated.

Usually you let your supervisor know and they apply for the award for you. This may mean they push it up the chain.

When I got mine it was through AAA Insurance.

I don't know how it is now, but years back, CHP and AAA held an annual lunch in different geographic areas in which the pins were awarded to officers from various law enforcement agencies. There would always be one Chippie who had a slew of recoveries because he was the one who got called to all the DMVs in the area on all the DOJ stops. (Talk about shooting fish in a barrel.)

Call your local CHP office and ask to speak with the Public Affairs Officer. They can point you to the person who coordinates the 10851 pin program for the area and that person can give you the program specifics.

In Sac area the ISU secretary processes the applications for all the offices and PD's in the division. I'm sure that's the case everywhere. Call the Division HQ for your region (not the local office, the big regional office) and ask for ISU (investigations). The person that answers the phone will be in the know.
If you see me running try to keep up!

In my area the CHP public affairs Captain or whatever her title is, came to our department and presented the awards at the city council meeting.

On my department, an auto detective supervisor will coordinate with the CHP for the award.
