  • Pro/Con of working for Orange County Sheriff vs. Local PD?

I do know the obvious differences.

Given the choice working LE at OCSD or one of the local PD's (Anaheim, Orange, Tustin, etc.) which would you select and why?

Mostly interested in opinions on job security, career progression, quality of life, workplace morale, etc.

    Thank you for responses!

It's important to look at the departments for what they are and what YOU want.

Job security - my captain told me this simple rule "Don't do stupid s***"

career progression - bigger departments have more to do. From what I've heard from academy classmates, station 18 (OCSD) has the most opportunity.

Workplace morale - everywhere has people you will get along with and people you wont.

Go on ride alongs and see for yourself. Make sure you look at pay/benefits. You don't work for free.

I went through Orange County's Academy with an LA county agency. Looking back I wish I would have given Orange County agencies a chance when I was applying.
