  • Ventura County Sheriffs

Just thought this forum needed a thread of VCSD. I believe they are having a written, physical agility, and PHS interviews coming up. They also just had a class start in April. Would like to hear peoples progress in the application progress and I would like insight on the agency and the job from VCSD deputies. I grew up in Ventura and know that VCSD is the top dog in the county, they get respect anywhere they go.

    Peacemaker,
Are you sure they had a class in April? I just finally received a letter after almost 2 years of waiting that "The eligible list for Duputy Sheriff Trainee has expired on 6-19-2011" I don't know why i am getting this letter now.... I'm sure the dept made a mistake somehow because after i passed my background interview i contacted my bi a few months letter and got an email stating he went back to patrol and passed along his files to another bi. I'll call next week to get more info.

Positive. They had a new hiring phase last September for the academy that just started in April and in March they opened a new hiring phase for an academy that starts in October. Something definitely sounds screwed up with your stuff, you should call and see what happened.

Uh..yeah, ok. VCSD *thinks* they are the top dog in the county.
Other officer: Oh that's right, I forgot, you're God's gift to police work.
Me: At least someone recognizes it.

Turns out basic police work isn't so hard, you just have to leave the station.

Who would you say is a more professional and well respected (statewide) local agency in Ventura County?

What do you want to know about the agency? I was a deputy there for a short period of time before lateraling elsewhere. Custody time right now is at least six years.

It isn't a matter of being "professional" or "well respected." You didn't say that, you said "top dog." My argument is that there is no "top dog" in Ventura County. Each agency has their own pros and cons. Some are common knowledge and can be discussed here, others not so much and won't be.

There's nothing wrong with VCSO. I personally would never go work there.

Do you think they're "top dog" because of high speed stations like Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, and Camarillo?

Yeah, I'll actually accept that one.

Oxnard PD deals with the most criminally active part of all of Ventura County... and from what I know Oxnard PD is a great agency.

Oxnard PD has pros and cons. Pay is fine, and I would agree that it is the "most criminally active part of the county." However there is mass division between units. Patrol doesn't talk to Detectives, Traffic doesn't talk to Patrol, etc. It's much worse there than at other agencies I've seen.

I also agree about VCDA Investigators, but they are so small. VCSD is just the most professional agency I've come across in the county. They are also active everywhere in the county, including in Oxnard Ventura, SimI Valley as part of task forces etc. They take charge in checking on sex offenders and they are also the agency that does a lot of work with the Secret Service on child porn cases in the county, gang work with the FBI and Oxnard PD, and drugs obviously with the DEA. The US Marshals Pacific Southwest RFTF is also looking to expand into VC when the budget loosens up.

*sigh* I guess no other agency in the county does all that except for VCSD....
