What is the deal with applying to be a reserve for OCSD? Does one need a POST certificate? I know someone who is interested, but she does not have POST.

I heard they'll be hiring full time deputies in June or July. Anyone else hear that too?

No, you don't need a POST, if hired, they will put you through the reserve academy...starting with Level III. They will not pay your salary to attend the academy, you will have to do that on your own time. They will however pay for your academy costs and your equipment. If you get hired after graduating as a pre-service, they will reimburse your academy costs and equipment...so keep your receipts. Obtaining your POST will take a very long time...depends on how many hours you're willing to put in and passing the FTO program for Level I. Some people only work the minimum 8 or 16 hours a month to maintain their status, while others volunteer a lot of time to the department.
