My goals are simple, I will always be painfully honest,
Work as hard as I can, learn as much as I can and
Hopefully make a difference in people’s lives.

I watched this last night on KTLA 10 news. When I saw the advertisement for the segment I thought that it was probably going to be nothing. I don't know now. The "3000 boys" seem to act just like gang members with their hand signs and behavior. The fact that they are getting similar tattoos, with one guy tattooing "3000" with a bar code on his neck, seems just like gang behavior. The incident at the Montabello bar disgusts me. Deputies on Deputies??

The followup segment tonight will cover the story about one of these "3000 boys" threatening a Fullerton bar bouncer because he was asked to leave the bar at closing time. There is a video and it looks like a typical drunk gangster throwing around his influence through fear.

My opinion with the limited information given is that these are young Deputies who are not mature enough to understand the power they hold, and how important it is be a professional. I understand camaraderie, but this goes beyond that. They are probably local and grew up with gang influences. It ****es me off when our career is sullied by the acts a few, and these kids are just adding to the publics image of us as bully's with badges. If the investigation confirms the suspicion that these Deputies have used excessive force on a regular basis, and that they are acting the fool on and off duty, give them the boot!

P.S. Come on, "3000 boys"?? Could they have come up with more of a pansy name? It sounds like a gang of homos in San Fran.

First the Quiet Cannon incident, and now this KTLA 2 parter. On top of the Baca gift-gate stories, this is just going from bad to worse for LASD and local news stories. The aiming reticule seems locked on tan and green for now. LAPD has only had "minor" stories with the DUI arrest lately, plus they got the "bump" from the poor K9 officer who got shot in the Valley. (Speaking of getting shot, is there any news on the LA Dep who got shot in the face a while back?)

Keep your head up deputies, you are just flavor of the month it seems right now.

          3000 boys

i saw it and was disgusted by it, their actions made all of us who were recently hired look bad. Some of us older folks had to try long and hard and get ALL of our ducks in a row to get on this dept. Most of the youngsters got on because they haven't been an adult long enough to stain their credit, get out of shape or behind the wheel long enough and so on. There are still very few deps that I have worked with in their early to mid 20s that I have confidence in. They are weeding themselves out...

Are you trying to insinuate that the media is picking on LASD and making the LAPD look like saints? That's not even remotely laughable.

The "bump" from the K9 officer who was shot??? Are you for real?

There's a reason why you're not a badge carrying member of law enforcement.

Elections are coming up, folks. KTLA probably has another candidate in mind to run against Sheriff Baca.

I was simply talking about the media and their war of perception. I was explicitly saying that negative stories seem to be focusing on LASD, rather than LAPD. The K9 officer story was sympathetic/tragic and so it seems like they aren't hammering on the LAPD, for now. As for your attack on me, I don't get it. I was simply trying to be supportive to all deputies who post on here. I apologize if I somehow offended you

The story is ridiculous. Its typical TV "news" drama sensationalized for ratings. From what I have heard, there is some truth to some of that b.s. Every department gets hammered in the press. It is what it is. As a copp'r/dep or whatever, I don't believe you can worry about it. That is for people with a much higher pay grade to do. Just worry about yourself and your partners to the left and right, not the knuckleheads at CJ. I too hope those deputies get the boot.

The damage is done. I doubt this particular story swayed an individual one way or another with respect towards their attitude for LE. Affluent people will always understand that copp'rs are people too, and yes....there are some idiot copp'rs. People that hate most likely always well. It's like abortion, people are on one side of the fence or the other and usually there aren't any arguments that will sway people. It seems to be just a deep seeded feeling, probably ingrained as a child.

As far as keeping ones head up, as long as I have the following three things when I go 10-8, I'm good to go:

good partners, plenty of gangsters out, a can of chew
The RANGER God cried from above
Lightning flashed from the darkened sun
Hailstones fell and the earth did mourn
It was a solem day for all Airborne
                    June 2001 will be
A tragic piece of RANGER history
Time stood still on that cursed day
Cuz legs were donning black berets

When I watched the news segment and saw the one Deputy with his shirt off and completly covered in tats, my first thought was how did that Ah ever get hired....

As A retired Sgt. It made me disgusted that the Dept. I served for so many years with pride is scraping the bottom of the barrel to hire Deputies....

Same here, it digusts me that we have officers with my dept covered with tats (full sleeves and on neck). If I was their background investigator, I would not hire anyone that looked like a freak.

i work with several "freaks" who im grateful to have watching my back. These "freaks" i work with are more squared away than most. its sad that you would describe an officer that way because of tatts. im glad you dont work in the LA area because we have alot of "freaks" who are cops here...

Times have changed Retired96, tatts are such a common occurrance in the current culture that a lot of the "meaning" of being tatted out has changed. While I have no problem with a guy having full sleeves or a body suit for that matter, they should be covered while on duty. I can't watch the police women of maircopa and see the one chick flashing her tatts all over without crigning a bit. Content of those tatts is the real issue.

We had a female officer who had worked Chino prison prior to coming on the job, she had a spider web on her elbow with a black widow on it... I asked her about it and she said, oh it's just because I worked at the prison. When I responded that her working there should be more of a reason not to have prison style tatts she just walked away. She was fired after an investigation revealed she had been smuggling cell phones to inmates while a guard and was currently shacking up with a PAROLEE gang memeber who was in her pod.

As far as the photos of them pounding tequila, who cares. What regular college kid hasn't done that. They may have taken their involvement in a group too far and are too immature to handle the power and authority given them but a criminal gang? no.

LAPD Newton Division officers get clover tatts, Southeast Officers have been known to sport a 108 tatt or a few others, does that make them a gang? Metropolitan Division Officers have 114 tattoos and hangout in groups when they go out, they all sit together in an area of a bar and call it metro section, does that make them a gang? No. If a SOW, SOE, NEWT cop hits one metro cop do all the other metro cops jump in and vice versa, yes. Is it a gang, no.
