3 SoCal police who took patrol car on Vegas joyride fired

GLENDALE - Three Glendale police officers who took a patrol car on a joyride to Las Vegas no longer work for the department, it was reported today.

Officers Patrick Hamblin, Fernando Salmeron and Mike Ullerich were separated from the department about three weeks ago, a city representative said.

Details of the personnel investigation were not released.

I dont get it. Economy sucks, cops are getting laid off, yet some ungrateful cops want to throw one of the best careers people are striving for every day down the drain. amazing. You read all the threads and posts about guys dyiiiing to get in trying to get any advice, scrambling to get ahead of the next prospect.. But what do the guys who have the great job go out and do??? Not just this situation in particular.. God knows all our depts got their share of interesting IAs.... so frustrating

Hmmmm......guess some new guys took some 'OG's stories about the job 'back in the day' a little bit too seriously.

This isnt even remotely new by a long shot........what is new is the 'getting caught and getting fired' part of the story.

A disgrace to the badge? Really? Dumb in this day but I wouldnt go that far.
For the cops out there: You are an adult. If you want to write someone, write them. If you don't want to write someone, then don't write them.

A few years ago we had some guys do the same thing....they got some money taken away but they did not get fired for it. Yeah I would agree not too smart this day and age.

WOW, you guys are are being a bit harsh for what it is calling them a disgrace to the badge etc. I have seen about 15 pictures from 4 different decades of LAPD cars at the NV border / San Diego / Santa Barbara etc.

This used to be a "challenge" to get there and back before EOW and not get caught, this is nothing new! In todays times pretty dumb but they weren't the first and won't be the last to try out the stunt.

With todays technology though it is likely the Chief has already seen the pictures of you and your partner on the strip long before you manage to get back.

I agree. Getting fired is a little overboard. Nobody has a sense of humor anymore. Some days off. Ok. Fired? Little harsh.

Most only get caught when they are foolish enough to take pictures and pass them around to prove how foolish they were. BTW, what makes you think the "OGs" tales about back in the day might be just that - tales? Just sayin', ya know?
