  • Former San Bernardino County supervisor pleads guilty in ongoing corruption case

    March 28, 2011 | 6:06 pm

Former San Bernardino County Supervisor William Postmus pleaded guilty Monday to three corruption charges and agreed to cooperate in an ongoing investigation, authorities said.

Prosecutors had alleged that Postmus accepted a $100,000 bribe to vote a for a settlement in 2006 of a lawsuit filed against the county by Rancho Cucamonga developer Colonies Partners.

At the time, Postmus chaired the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. The $102-million settlement over easement rights and flood-control improvements was approved on a 3-2 vote by the board against the advice of county and private attorneys, prosecutors said.

If Postmus provides true information to authorities, he will be sentenced to two felony charges of conspiracy to accept a bribe and conflict of interest in the Colonies Partners case and to felony misappropriation of government funds in a separate case stemming from his tenure as county assessor, according to the San Bernardino County district attorney's office.
