How about getting a map and looking up nearby cities and then doing a search for the department websites and their human resource pages....you'll find all you need..

One of the biggest agencies in the area, San Jose, is threatening to lay off 349 officers. (That could include people with 8-9 years on!) If there are any jobs to be had they have a greater chance of getting them.
I heard Seattle or Vancouver Washington (I forget which) was recruiting down here.
There is a site called Cal Opps (I think) that lists available jobs. You can research the agency from there.

I'm a laid off officer from NJ. My family and I are looking at agencies in the Bay Area. Can anyone let me know how it is, cost of living (I know its high, but other taxes, etc, things that are tough to find out about before actually living there), areas to live in, state of the pension (can I buy my pension time from NJ?), pension percentage when you retire, busy agencies to work for (I worked in the highest crime city in the nation, and I like that activity), and anything to watch out for.

Thanks for any help you can give.
