  • Navy reservist in San Diego uses stun gun to subdue purse-snatching suspect

    March 12, 2011 | 9:25 am

An off-duty Navy reservist chased a purse-snatching suspect for several blocks, tackled him and then subdued him with a stun gun, San Diego police said.

The incident began in the parking lot of a shopping center in the Rancho Penasquitos neighborhood. A 54-year-old woman had just left the Union Bank when a man opened the unlocked door of her car and stole her purse, police said.

Hearing the woman scream, a citizen chased the suspect and subdued him with the stun gun, police said. The citizen, identified only as a Navy reservist, kept the suspect under control until police arrived, they said.

Brendan Eads, 24, was arrested and booked into San Diego County Jail on grand-theft charges. He received minor injuries during the incident, police said. The woman was not injured.
