A manhunt for an attempted murder suspect triggered a lockdown at Chatsworth High School on Wednesday, as police chased the man on foot through a nearby neighborhood, finally catching him with help from a police dog.

The suspect, a 19-year-old man, was wanted in an aggravated assault incident on Nov. 10, 2010, in the Devonshire area, according to Officer Bruce Borihanh of LAPD Media Relations.

A Los Angeles school police officer recognized the suspect near Mayall Street and Sunnybrae Avenue about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and chased him on foot through a neighborhood near the school, according to the Borihanh.

The school was locked down as a precaution about 11:00 a.m. as air and canine units searched for the suspect, who was considered armed and dangerous, according to school police.

He was taken into custody at about 1 p.m. after a police dog found him within the perimeter, Borihanh said. He was taken to a local hospital for unknown injuries.

The perimeter and school lockdown were lifted shortly after.

The suspect's identity will not be released until he's booked, Borihanh said.
