You pretty much hit the big ones. Only other places I would recommend are Coronado Island, Coronado Beach, and Balboa Park.
Places to Eat: There are a few good spots. If you go down to Coronado, Village Pizzeria and Burger Lounge are pretty good. Few of the mexican places I like are Sahira's off of Miramar and Lolitas down in Claremont Mesa. Another decent burger place is Smashburger down in La Jolla.
Asian food is so-so, nothing I've had really stands out, but they have a bunch off of Convoy street close to Claremont. The one decent sushi place I've been to is Sushi Ota which is near pacific beach.
In downtown if you want to spend more money, Rei Do Gado is a brazilian bbq place that is pretty good.
A pretty good indian place I like is called punjabi tandoor close off of miramar and close to the 15.
A good breakfast place is Broken Yolk Cafe and the Mission.
I've tried many many places and this would probably be my list of favorites in San Diego. Hope this helps. -
Don't miss out on Old Town. The Sheriff museum is there too. And if you are into LE museums the SDPD museum is in City Heights. The Cabrillo Monument/light house is pretty cool with sweeping views of the skyline and north island. If you are going to hang out at a beach stay away from Ocean Beach unless you like weed and stinky hippies. La Jolla Shores and Coronado beaches are the best. I would pass on a TJ trip, I can look out my window and see Mexico, but haven't been there in years due to safety concerns.
As far as eating goes the Mexican food is pretty good, my favorite is Ponce's on Adams Ave in Kensington. All the places in old town are pretty good as well, Guadalajara's being my favorite. In the Gaslamp I like La Puerta on 4th Ave. There are several Fred's Mexican food places and it's just ok... it's a chain and kinda bland to me. While you are here make sure you try a "California burrito" from a fast food joint.
The best burgers in town are Nicky Rotten's in the Gaslamp followed by Crazy burger (Old town/North park). Sloppy Joeys in the gaslamp is Italian food and is connected to Nicky Rottens. Basic Pizza in the East Village is pretty cool and one of my favorite places to drink.
And as stated above Reo De gado is pretty awesome if you have the money and love meat. Also I like the Mission and broken yolk for breakfast (several locations each). Another suggestion for breakfast is Hash House in Hillcrest, which is pretty awesome.Comment

My son lives in Rancho Bernardo and loves Poway sushi lounge. I also have good luck stopping in the little hole-in-the-wall mexican places in Chula Vista and National City. I can't recall the name of the place in Mission Valley that has the home-brewed beer but it's near the cinema. Best burgers I had while I was there.Good.........bad..........I'm the guy with the gun - Army of DarknesssigpicComment

Of course there are the Indian Casinos. Just head east on I-8 to get to the indian casions and the san dunes.
Of course there's south of the border, Tiajuana Mexico. Don't take your badge or gun!
Then there's Little Italy, very little it's about 3 blocks long on a one way street. Some real good mom and pop italian places there.Last edited by GIOSTORMUSNRET; 03-05-2011, 03:08 PM.GOD IS A NINJA WITH A SNIPER RIFLE, WAITING TO TAKE YOU OUT.

Jaunberto's is a decent little taco shack across from MCAS Miramar, they have the best California Burritos. Rock Bottom Brewery in LaJolla is a good place to eat/drink. I spent alot of time in the mountains around SD. The little town of Julian is a great day trip to get out of the city; the Apple Country Restaraunt and Dudleys Bakery are out in the middle of nowhere, but the food is great.
I lived in East County for 4 years ('04-08) and miss it alot, especially after shovelling snow all winter long. If I had gotten on the job out there, I would have stayed.I make my living on Irish welfare.Comment

That's 70 miles ish one way. We have two guys that commute from Victorville and Apple Valley into the Long Beach area. 100 miles one way! Maniacs. If they have court on call in the am and don't work until nights they end up staying all day.Comment

I am more amazed by the guys who live in havasu and central california. I remember one guy who lived in kernville and commuted to the valley working morning watch. At 4.00+ a gallon you might as well pull a trailer into the station parking lot and set up shop."For he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer." Romans 13:4Comment
