  • Motor boots

Hey motors, I have a thread in the squad room, traffic section covering this too so you can either answer here or there. Some of you know I should be getting back on 2 wheels. Supposed to find out from the Capt on friday. I need to find out your favorite motor boots. The LASPD issued Dehner Jr's (stock with the laminate stacks). After the ankles cracked, I bought All Americans. If the dept will let me, I want to pay the difference on a good pair. If not, I will save up. I'm thinking Dehner Sr's (custom, all leather). What's your favorite and why?

Dehner Jr.'s are a good boot. If you polish them regularly and saddle soap them every six months or so, you will not get any cracking. I had both - Jr's and Sr's - and preferred the Jr's for daily wear. I wore the Sr's on special details.

In the eleven years I rode I only owned those two pair of boots. When I got off motors in 1979 I was able to sell both for nearly what I paid for them - especially the Sr's.

Helimot in San Jose, CA imports Daytona Boots. They make a line that look like they would be OK for duty. I take it you wouldn't want red or yellow ones that say DAYTONA down the side.

They are mostly focused on top tier professional racing boots. So if safety and comfort are a concern these are the ones to go with.

Oh, and why do I like these. Well, I crashed once in a race and my body got pinned under the bike and I skidded off the track, and my body was twisted relative to my foot/ankle as I was sliding off the track with the bike on top of me. I came to a rest in my contorted position and thought was "uh oh, this isn't good, the adrenalin must be dampening the pain". Well, no injuries, just a sprained hand, nothing foot related.

I was wearing the EVO Sport GTX model.

Unfortunately, those don't fit the traditional motor boot design. They would be better though. If only we had the good pants instead of breeches.
