That leaves 6 officers on patrol, one unit is stuck at the hospital babysitting a suspect, another is at the station with one in custody. That leaves 1 unit to handle the 13 square mile area in south LA all alone.

Good job city council and Mayor Idiot. You are all doing a fine job signing checks for gang interventionists to start drug enterprises instead of paying cops.

Don't forget about all the checks being signed for overwatch groups and attorneys. We have the office of independent review board that are a bunch of attorneys that review every policy and investigation that is done against Deps. What a waste of money.

Recently in 77th, less than two months ago, the mayors office praised the gang interventionists with the homicide rate and shootings being reduced YTD vs last year. No credit was given to the line coppers actually working the area. Since then 77th has been hit hard with forced TO's all through the ranks, shootings have skyrocketed and the homicide #'s have surpassed last years. That in and of itself should show that the gang interventionists are worthless and the value of a cop on the streets can't be made up in any other way.

Dude if you've ever been to a COMPSTAT meeting you would know how much bull**** it is, there are actually no less shootings, there are probably less hits, they just title it differently. That was Brattons way of making it "look" like he was reducing part 1 crimes when in reality he was "reclassifying" it as something else. Completely bull**** on the part of the brass.

I know all about fiddling with the #'s for COMPSTAT. Try and get a night watch detective to agree that a guy walking into Walmart with a booster bag and no money should be booked for 459 instead of 484, or even better, getting them to agree to an Estes robbery over the 484 just so the dot won't show up on the crime map.

It's not so much the paperwork, it's the fact that unlimited OT money will not always be there, as illustrated by the OP. Management will start questioning everything I do, is that "really necessary", "can't you just do it tomorrow" "can you just do it with 2 agents instead of paying the whole grop OT" etc. We already have that issue with our TFO's from state/local PD's. They exhaust their OT budget well before the fiscal year ends and become much less useful. The good ones still work anyway but still I hate to see them working for nothing.

You see all the end of the fiscal year budget drama with car repairs, oil changes, etc. It would be the same with OT.

Plus we don't really have to keep a tight record of our hours. As long as the G/S knows we are working hard and easily exceeding 50 hours a week, he doesn't question our schedules, which is another administrative headache I don't want.

I just want the freedom to make cases. Administrative duties cut way too much actual work time out of this job as it is, and GS-13 plus LEAP and a GOV is more than adequate compensation for me.

I can't imagine having to ask ANYONE to approve what I charge someone with. Our Watch Commander trusts us to make good decisions and as long as all elements of the crime apply we have nothing to worry about.

In regards to overtime, I forgot what that was. I had to google it

I expect to see more of the same. Our gang unit already depleted and overworked due to financial disclosure is now facing over half of the remaining officers on forced T/O's. We are putting out 3 cars on mid pm's and 3-4 on mornings. Our gun arrests have gone way up too!!! Everyone but the laziest of coppers has had at least 2-3 in the last month. Crime is gonna take off again it has just been a slower reaction to the economy than we all expected.
I am at 198 hrs and luckily have a DP 6 vacation that I agreed to tack an extra week on to burn some of my time. But when I am gone there is no one to fill my spot. The dept needs to stop hiring un-trained recruits, and spend the money to keep the trained officers out on the street.

Oh and we can fire all the gang interventionists that demand to be allowed into crime scenes and call your LT and make a complaint when you don't let them in. I am n

Our dept was trying to bring gang interventionist on also. We've been fighting it. Haven't heard nothing about it in a long time. I'm sure they would get a warm welcome if they tried to demand to get into one of our crime scenes

I had to take a week off this month due to OT and I am still on probation. It's gonna be a hot summer in LA this year.

Too many "cold cases" have been solved in recent years. Sounds like it's time to start building up those files again!
