if you are trying to impersonate a LAPD officer this probably isn't the site that you want to ask for advice on.

That being said, I'm sure they have had many different designs over the years.

Jeez, that's a giant assumption. A lot of folks in Europe are enthralled with all things LAPD. Some even go so far as to collect old CV's.

They have both, just depends which one LAPRAAC has in stock. You do need police ID to buy one, and I would be skeptical of getting stopped by someone just wearing the raid jacket with no badge.

^What he said^ It also depends on the age of the jacket, the lettering is a bit different on the older ones. I have 3, two just say police on the back the other one has Los Angeles Police. (I have three because I bought one for another officer who said they'd pay me back, he bought his own and I couldn't find mine one day i needed it so a quick trip to LAPRAAC to get a new one it was.

Hello im only very intrested in everything about the LAPD. I respect those who protect others. My aunt lived over 30 years in Los Angeles and she told me how hard it is to be a Police Officer in LA there are very different relationships there than here in Germany.

            Thanks for the answers.

What we do here in Germany is to show people how are the Police Officer looking in an other part of the world, what they can see only in Cinema.
We collect Cars and Uniforms and more and show them intrested People here in germany.

We collect donations for children who have no families at our events. And we the make the children a great pleasure by showing them police from another part of the world.
            best regards

I personally have always wondered why the windbreakers and jackets have an LAPD patch on the sleeve but you never see a LAPD patch on there official uniform, why is that?

Some of our Officers have patches. Traffic Officers, for example, have a shoulder patch, as do some specialized units such as bikes and air support. Regular folks in patrol don't, however.

Because the department feels our uniforms are universally recognized as LAPD and we don't need no stinkin patches, a blue windbreaker however is not easily recognizable as a police uniform so it must have identifying marks at every angle so people can not deny seeing that we are cops.

Just like most uniform shirts don't say POLICE really big on the back but most tac-vests do.

Those raid jackets crack me up. They haven't changed one bit since the 80's when I wore one regularly. The whole world has changed and we've changed our weapons several times, but we still have those damn raid jackets. I see that they are used much more rarely now. I see detectives wear them on occasion when they go out on search warrants, and sometimes to lunch, but back in the day, every swingin' dick unit from SPU to PED to FES used to wear those things. That and their drop holsters....

The list now inludes SPU, PED, Capt at a crime scene, Autos, Gang Dets, and assorted whiz bang super kid types. I seriously think its time for an up-grade.

Even we still wear our same raid jackets we've been wearing for years. It's traditional. Our dept has been tossing around a "new" windbreaker type jacket replacement. None of us really like it and wont wear it. It's probably the same with you guys.

I like the old school windbreakers best. The newer ones with the pull-down panels just don't look right.

That makes sence, but who started the no patch uniform? As for the uniform it does look great. My department actually designed our badges after theirs, "great looking badge".

Do you know any other PDs that go without shoulder patches? Just curious, It definitely would not work here in Oklahoma.......
