  • Your favorite VC section

What is your favorite vehicle section? Something you use all the time for PC? Or just something obscure.

23120. No person shall operate a motor vehicle while wearing glasses having a temple width of one-half inch or more if any part of such temple extends below the horizontal center of the lens so as to interfere with lateral vision.

I've never used that as PC though I'd like to.

And lets not forget the ultimate 11550 catcher:

    21201.
    (d) A bicycle operated during darkness upon a highway, a sidewalk where bicycle operation is not prohibited by the local jurisdiction, or a bikeway, as defined in Section 890.4 of the Streets and Highways Code, shall be equipped with all of the following:
    (1) A lamp emitting a white light that, while the bicycle is in motion, illuminates the highway, sidewalk, or bikeway in front of the bicyclist and is visible from a distance of 300 feet in front and from the sides of the bicycle.
    (2) A red reflector on the rear that shall be visible from a distance of 500 feet to the rear when directly in front of lawful upper beams of headlamps on a motor vehicle.
    (3) A white or yellow reflector on each pedal, shoe, or ankle visible from the front and rear of the bicycle from a distance of 200 feet.
Other officer: Oh that's right, I forgot, you're God's gift to police work.
Me: At least someone recognizes it.

Turns out basic police work isn't so hard, you just have to leave the station.

    My favorite by far:

Vehicle Code section 40302: Whenever any person is arrested for any violation of this code, not declared to be a felony, the arrested person shall be taken without unnecessary delay before a magistrate within the county in which the offense charged is alleged to have been committed and who has jurisdiction of the offense and is nearest or most accessible with reference to the place where the arrest is made in any of the following cases:

    (a) When the person arrested fails to present his driver's license or other satisfactory evidence of his identity for examination.

Prevented thousands of unnecessary warrant arrests of innocent persons (victims of identity theft) and led to an equal number of arrests of wanted fugitives and persons driving on suspended/revoked licenses.

After watching cops and working with deputies I'm convinced the only section you guys know is 24601

...not that I don't use it on a daily basis too, just saying.

23111 CVC. The only infraction CVC here that will go into a bookable arrest warrant for FTA... a huge fine and the best part- one day of mandatory public service. (Caltrans trash crew!).

People always fight it, and I get court OT out of it every cite (almost).

On rainy days the headlights on if windshield wipers are on law. 24400 something. It makes almost every car stoppable. And I don't mind getting soaked for a good felony.

4000 (a) 1 VC- Expired registration...If I can figure out how to pay mine, you can figure out how to pay yours.

14602.6 (a)1 Leads to fewer cars on the road.

16028 a VC- Get some insurance already

21658 a VC - Unsafe lane change / lane straddling...everyone does it...great PC stop section

21201 (d)1-3- The "gangster felony" and probably responsible for more dope arrests than any other PC section

If I remember it correctly...22410 VC, exceding 6 MPH on a metal tire.

Now, in 30 years did I ever write it? No. But it was PC for a stop which resulted in a DUI arrest, a trial, and most importantly a conviction. This guy was weaving all over the road emitting a shower of sparks from his rim on the blacktop. "Sir, do you know your right rear tire is blown out?" An alcoholic beverage-scented "Noooooo, really offisher?" was his reply.

Then there was 22517(?) opening or maintaining an open car door to oncoming vehicle traffic.

The best PC to stop... 22100(a) VC - Right Turns. Both the approach for a right-hand turn and a right-hand turn shall be made as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway. You can also use (d) for left turns!

                    They have to turn sometime

24252(a)- Covers all required lighting, that way you never have to remmeber the specific section for each light.
