  • Chino CA) PD Is Hiring...

The Chino (CA) Police Department is running a big ad in this morning's local newspaper. They are actively seeking Police Officers . . . New hires and laterals. You can register on-line:

They're hiring laterals and those who are currently enrolled in an academy.

Yah just went to their HR website and if you scroll to the bottom it shows currently open positions. It appears they are only hiring for people currently in the POST program or have graduated already.

I've noticed a lot of smaller departments are only hiring people who have a POST certificate vs a recruit. Maybe it's not such a bad idea to go out and get a POST certificate and then try applying to some of these? Can you get a POST certificate through a paid program? Anyone know how much it costs and time commitment?

You can go through a regional police academy like Rio Hondo as a self sponsor.

I start in January as a Self Sponsored Recruit. Time wise, it's the same as the regular basic academy, about 6 months, or you can do an extended/reserve academy, which is about 1 year but only 3 days a week. Both in the end give you the same certificate. Average cost is $4,000-$5,000 from what I've spent and what I've been told from others.

As Gonzo said, there is the Rio Hondo Academy which is in LA, there is the Orange County Sheriffs Academy, Fullerton College Police Academy, and Golden West College Police Academy all in California which all take Self Sponsored Recruits. I'm not sure of any others in LA, but I'm sure there's a couple more.

Good, busy place to work, my friend works there and really likes it. so far he has done motor and now he does k9. From what he says they seem very squared away.
Ivan, did you see the sun rise this morningsigpic?

Chino has its busy areas (Pomona/Ontario borders) and they have the slower residential areas (South Chino).

Last I heard they were taking over an old Home Depot as the location for their new PD building. I don't know if that started yet.

I withdrew from the hiring process at Chino recently because I got hired full time at another agency before they completed the process. I have nothing but good things to say about Chino, and the people I met there while I was an applicant. It's a good quality organization and offers a diverse working environment. I would encourage anyone to apply if you have graduated form an academy or are a lateral.
