Had our chemical agent day yesterday. I thought the OC would be a discomfort with watery eyes, itchy throat and runny nose. Boy was I wrong!

Hanging snot boogers!!!This profession is not for people looking for positive reinforcement from the public. Very often it can be a thankless job and you can't desire accolades, because those are not usually forthcoming. Just do your job to the best of your ability and live with the decisions you've made. -
I used some baby shampoo/dawn mix. I dont think it helped. I was so blinded though, I didnt know what I was doing.Comment

"Dawn' dishwashing soap worked well for some of the guys in my Academy.

Fun stuff. Going for tacos afterwards? You already had the "hot sauce"...
I remember they made me cover my right eye with one hand while they liberally doused my left eye. It stung like a mother. Two of the instructors rushed me over to the water hose and sprayed me liberally. Made it WORSE. Then I did as I was instructed to try and force open the eye. It ended up contaminating my one good eye, so now both were outta commission (because the OC was all over my right hand). Then I got yelled at by my TO for not forcing my eyeball open. When he realized that both of my hands got contaminated, they (TOs and instructors) all had a good laugh.
The CS wasn't as bad as the OC IMHO, but I did enter the gas house as it was dying out. They asked if anyone wanted to go again because they had like 8 canisters to get rid of.Comment

Milk works! It bonds with the OC and actually washes it off your body...water just moves it around. I got OC'd by a suspect and FD gave me milk
It didnt burn while I was fighting but after the adrenaline wore off.....F***!!!!Comment

The scientist in me agrees with this post. Milk is by far the best way to quell the burn. Sadly when I went through OC I didn't have any milk near me."Officer, you are kinda hot."

I thought about bringing milk, but I had no where to store it. I didnt want to pour warm rotten milk on myself!
We had CN and CS afterward. The CN made my nose and face burn , The CS was way worse than the CN. Coughed like a mad man.
Niether was as bad as the pepper though.Comment

Orange County is not that bad...I've only been there a couple times but I did not have any of those problems.....You probably went to Santa Ana?Comment

What percentage is LE grade? In the Corps was hit with OC (10%) twice and the foam once. Did CS every year...which was breath of fresh air (pun intended) compared to OC."Against the machinations of your enemies you can take defense, but against the stupidity of fools, the very gods themselves fight in vain" ~ Johann C.F. Von Schiller
