  • OIS in Moreno Valley

I've been looking everywhere online for the actual details of the shooting and cannot seem to find it. Everyone seems more concerned that th 60 freeway was closed down.

More charges possible for man shot in Moreno Valley by police
    By PE News on September 20, 2009 11:17 AM | Comments (0)
Police are not releasing the name of a man shot by police yesterday in Moreno Valley, because more victims could come forward to the bizarre robbery, car chase, accident, foot chase and attempted robberies prior to the shooting.

Investigator Juan Zamora, spokesman for the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, said more potential victims could come forward after the man tried to break into their cars Saturday afternoon.

"As the suspect was running from the off-ramp, he attempted to get into several vehicles," Zamora said.

The man was fleeing after he allegedly robbed a Moreno Valley home on Hazelwood Court, near Iris Avenue. He took a car from the home, but was quickly chased by police.

The suspect hit another car from behind at the intersection of Perris Boulevard and Sunnymeade Boulevard. He then tried to flee on foot as he sought another car to steal, police said.

The man fled up the off-ramp to Highway 60, where he was shot by police. Officials have not given any indication of why shots were fired, but witnesses told police the man was reaching into his clothing as if he was armed.

As officials investigate the incident, Zamora said the drivers who avoided being carjacked could come forward. If so, they would need to identify the man independently, Zamora said, so officials are not releasing his name.

The suspect remains hospitalized, but is expected to survive. He is being held on suspicion of carjacking, burglary, kidnapping, false imprisonment and evading arrest.
