  • Places to get gear shined in OC

Hi guys, do you any of you know of anywhere that does a good job of shining leather gear in norther Orange County, aside from uniform center? Thanks

I know Galls by LAX does it.

Galls owns the location in OC too (Uniform Center). I will never do business there again with their shoddy customer service (or complete lack of service). The only place I know that does really good shines is Chambers on Central in LA.

Yeah, I just transferred again and I dunno if HWD has a shine guy and Im not wanting to drive there off duty.

Everyone I talk to about leather luster seems to say that the shine is great but it will destroy your gear. Thanks for the replies though.

Darn, this just about duty belts. I had higher hopes that "getting your gear shined" had something to do with badge bunnies.

Well, with a good shine, your duty belt can double as a vanity mirror for those down in the area...

Leather Luster is amazing- especially with black basketweave leathergear. Alot of work and constant application of multiple coats but the shine is mirrorlike.

Your LAPD smooth finish leathergear might end up looking like patent leather tho'??

Hankido - its melotonin (sp) spray thats gives it a gloss finish.

I honestly think that basket weave looks better without polish. I dont know what patent leather is but is it that stuff that has a permanent shine to it? An officer at my old div has his belt with that gear on it...its looks good enough and is light, but its crazy expensive and is you scuff it, thats all she wrote...

^ I didn't even think your LAPD gear was able to polish. That's some crazy shine I must admit.

Leather Luster hasn't destroyed my boots or duty gear...yet! I've reapplied it on the boots twice and you just have to remove the old coat with the alcohol that's supplied. Leather Luster's good on basket weave. I'm not so sure about LAPD gear tho.

Yeah, that's patent leather- I think its also called corfam in the military. It's popular amongst mall security and Honor Guard uniforms- mostly for dog and pony effect.

Leather luster I think would be overkill on smooth finish leathergear, but that's just me. Most Santa Ana PD guys who've lateralled over from LAPD still wear their smooth finish and swivel holstered duty belts. Some look like they've been wearing the same rig from "The Road" (Academy Rd.)

I use leather lustre on my basket weave gear. It's a God-sent answer to polishing basketweave. I just "shine" it up with Pledge furinture spray every couple weeks and I'm looking like a million bucks!
