  • Am I just picky or what?

How many Deps hate when people call you "Officer"? I remember the days in LA County when you would get your a** handed to you if you did this. I know the general public doesn't know the difference but come on.

The other day I was dealing with a 5150 at a hospital. The guy called me Officer. I told him that if I wanted to be an officer, I would put back on the f**got blue uniform. So now the nurses make it a point to call me officer. I call them candy stripers in return.

Should I just be more sensitive and politically correct, or let them know when they're dumb a**es?

Hell no. I'm getting too accustomed to the tan and green. I like Sheriff Bully better. That's an elected spot. I wouldn't have to watch my mouth and worry about getting fired.

When dealing with the local "youth", they used to call me "Dude". My instant reply was "That's DEPUTY Dude to you"!

I was a city Po-po and then a Deputy Sheriff, and and tan and green is the only way to go!

Amen. It's kinda funny. In my county all but a handful of cities contract with us. You would think people would realize that sometime.

While I was at the hospital a doctor called me an Officer so I called him a nurse. It's funny cause he got offended and corrected me by saying, "Excuse me I'm a doctor not a nurse." I followed with, "Okay, I'm a Deputy not an Officer." I had a good laugh while he stormed off.

Dude, Dep or Officer, it's all the same. At your old department and at mine, it's a fight to keep people from calling us SECURITY at most places, even though we are full-on cops....you know that's true.

Although it doesn't bother me, but when I was a kid, Deps would correct us right away ( the old school way ) if we called them officer.

You're too picky Bully. There's a lot worse things you can and probably have been called than "officer." Appreciate the fact that at least some respect is being shown.

Besides, when a Sheriff's department provides contract policing services to incorporated cities, titles can be confusing to non-LEOs.

In my county our deps wear all tan, so the only differences between our uniform and theres is the blue/yellow stripe. I get called deputy a lot, I don't get as butt hurt about it but I make it known I am in no shape or form a deputy

If they're calling you "Officer", at least it shows that they are addressing yhou with respect. It doesn't matter if the general public doesn't really understand the differences between agencies. We're all on the same team, we do the same job and have the same classification under the law - peace officer.
