  • LAPD's tattoo policy.

I apologize in advance if this has already been asked.

I took my PBA & JPQ last night online but I couldn't find anything on their website regarding visible tattoos.

Do they have a policy against tattoos?

yes...no visible tattoos, and if you have any you are required to provide written explanations about why you have them and they will photo them during the background process. If any appear suspicious (EX: the 3 dots "Mi Vida Loca") they turn them over to gang operations support and you most likely won't be hired.

I have my son's name on my wrist, would that be an issue?
Would I have to wear a long-sleeve uniform all year round?
Would I only be allowed to wear a short-sleeve uniform if I cover my tattoo with an Ace bandage or something like that?

I ask those questions specifically because those are new policies adapted w/ visible tattoos after 01/2006 in the NYPD.

If it's small enough, you can wear some type of bandage or wrap that somewhat matches the color of your skin.

In the academy, they will be very strict about it and you'll have to wear a skin toned type of bandage. In the field, ive seen people wear long sleeve underarmor shirts under their short sleeves or a black brace to cover them.
