  • Got my DQ letter...

I just received my disqualification letter today from RSO, and honestly, I'm kinda mad. I have a degree, great credit, good work history, great family life, never seen the back of a police car, and very few stupid decisions in my past. It just goes to show that you can do EVERYTHING right, and still not be good enough. I'm sure that they gave an interview to the tattooed, pierced, piece of WT that stood in line in front of me at the PAT. Sorry to vent, but this whole process is SOOOO frustrating. This sucks...

Sorry to hear that Wannabe... Can't you find out why? There must be a reason. How far were you in the process??

No, the letter stated that they "cannot" disclose the reason as stated on the No Feedback form. Probably because they legally cant tell me its because I'm an IDIOT!

            C'mon man!

Dude, RACE or GENDER plays no part in the hiring process>> I am Hispanic, bilingual, very athletic, college degree, no skeletons in my closet, been at me job for 10 years, good credit history, never had any contacts with the police and been married for 8 years with no physical or verbal abuse to my kids or wife! AND STILL DID NOT GET HIRE BY A LOCAL AGENCY!!! Yeah, I am p*** off too but I guess the Lt. thought my interview with HER was not good enough...Keep applying at other places and don't give up....

Note: I don't any tattoos either!

Maybe it was your grammar. Just an idea.

OP - If no reason it was something from someone they talked to just try to run it down yourself. If not that, it was something you put or didn't put in the packet.

I've been filling mine out and i'm so ready to be done with it I could puke!

Ok, maybe I came across wrong. I am just frustrated by this whole thing. I apologize if that comment offended anyone, that wasn't my intent. On another note, I was told by a BI that they are not looking for angels, which I am not, but there definatly isn't any skeletons in my closet either. Being a deputy wasn't my dream job, or something that I've wanted to do since I was a kid or any other of the lame cliches (sorry, no accent) I hear so often. But a way for a good person to earn a good living, support a family, all while giving back to his/her community. Am I destined for failure because of this approach? Is this the wrong attitude?

As far as the tattoo thing, I wasn't making a blanket statement that everyone with tattoos is WT, just that the man in front of me in line was. P.S. I have a couple tattoos myself.

I'm positive that my race and gender had nothing to do with my DQ, but I have earned the right to be a tad bit sore over the whole thing. For the last 6 months, all I've done is eat/sleep becomming a deputy, and to be dropped without an explanation is de-moralizing.

                    Thanks for the feedback though...

                      To the OP,

Yeah I know that getting the DQ letter sucks. Trust me it sucks hard especially after you get the call from the chief's office telling you that you passed everything and are recomended for hire then two weeks later you get a DQ from the same office. Many of the members here have gone through it but they kept at it and got picked up by one agency or another. I think you should do the same.

As for me, after my pity party, I stopped going to Jim's Burgers and am going back to the gym so that I can pursue the career that I have dreamed about since I became an explorer at 14.

                        Rso

I am a deputy with RSO and very proud of the organization. Just because you did not meet what they; RSO, was looking for doesnt mean its the end of your ambitions of being a cop. So grab your boot straps and move on. No matter how much you yell and scream it wont change! I was that guy who wasnt hired the first or second and third or even third try, but that doesnt mean stop trying. Its what you say now, do to the adversity that shows others the kind of person you are. Despite the fact you claim, according to your last post, that you have no idea why, think about it, a long while and if you still do not have that apifinie, than you need to dig deeper. For its what you take from this into the next processes that will make the difference. NO ONE IS AN "ANGEL" NO MATTER HOW GOOD YOU THINK YOU ARE. Be honest with yourself and the bsckground officers so they can pass you and more than likely it wont be no big deal. Unless your 18 years of age with no life experience, which for most depts. still is not that attractive, be completely honest. I am not saying, study, prepare and be ready for the hard questions, but just dont be niave nor go in with the attitude they wont ever catch something whether significant or small. Its integrity that matters. I dont want you hired with my dept. if you are of two things; a perfect angel or someone that lies. With that said I am not accusing you of any of these, but only you know whether or not any of the above applies. I am willling to help anyone out their, but you have to ask for it. If you are smart, do what I did, talk with everyone on this site that is affiliated with the dept that you are applying with. Not once had I heard from you! Good luck and good night.

Wannabe08, I know how you feel. Last year I was DQ'd from RSO. If law enforcement is the career you want to persue then keep trying. Keep in mind, not everyone gets hired at the first department they apply for.

                              Rso Response

You should have only bee required to fill out one PHS packet. With that said, definetely if it was hand written you want it in black ink. Its not to say they are going to dq you b/c of this, but that they may require you. All law enforecement paperwork will always be filled out in black ink not blue, but because you are not technivslly l/e officer, they should not expect it. You just need to to follow their direction and not read into it, You will be fine, from this particular issue. Good luck.
