What is the current issued firearm to new Phoenix PD recruits? Is it possible for officers to purchase their own carbine, "AR-15" style rifle to carry on duty and if so what are the requirements to do so?

phx issues a glock 22 40cal
some can get a 23 if they have small hands.
phoenix does not allow rifles at all.
the city has only a handfull total only special ops units etc. no basic patrol is allowed rifles
officer a couple years back paralyzed some kid in her house when he shot a rifle and phx got scared ****less and took rifles out of patrol hands.

Currently no rifles are allowed but PLEA (bargainning unit) is trying to the city and department to allow rifles again after a shootout up North I believe. at the very least they are trying to allow them if the officers buy them. will it happen, probably not, but i hope so because PHX needs it. has anyone been to South PHX, Maryvale or Sunnyslope lately? WAKE UP PEOPLE! POLICE ARE GETTING SCREWED...

Duty weapons
Phoenix will issue you a Glock 22. But if you ask, the will exchange it for a 23 or 27. They allow you to carry any model Glock in 40 or 45, but I don't think they have any 45's to issue.
Every patrol squad has a rifle/AR. They are city issue, no personal rifles allowed. At the patrol level, everyone is allowed to carry a shotgun if you want. The city will issue you a standard 870, or you can buy your own.

Oh thanks a whole freakin lot.
Now exactly what excuse am I supposed to tell the wife so she will let me get an M4?
lol
Well at least I already told her that If I do make it onto DPS, I want my back up to be the same type of gun as the one I am issued. only smaller but the same caliber.

Nah,
I just feel guilty everytime she asks to go shopping and I say no.
But when I want to buy something...I just do.
I realized it was unfair...... so I ask her about what I want to buy all the time.
bunny thing is she always comes up with an excuse to convince ME to buy what ever it was that I was asking for.
so basically I stiil buy what I want. I just ask her first. But that stuff has to stop. This woman is a saint for putting up with my $#!t
I would have divorced myself a long time ago.
