Is there a lot of turnover at Gila River? They seem to hire a lot.

The agency has grown tremendously in the past 3 years. Many officer-level vacancies exist due to promotions (newly-created positions) and back-filling specialty vacancies.

Reference turnover, remember this...for any agency.

There are only two things cops hate:

      1) Change
      2) The way things are

I'd rather be judged by 12 rather carried by 6.

It should be noted that any and all post that are made are based on my own thought and opinions. And are not related or implied to represent the department I work for.

Obviously I've been to their website in order to apply. However it's unlikely they are going to say don't apply here we suck. Which is why im looking for insider info which is what these forums are for.

Tribal PDs are a very unique force. Some are only sworn as tribal officers either by tribe or fed's. Some have dual powers of state and tribal laws. That allows them to enforce the laws all all persons with in the reservations. If only have tribal can only enforce of the Native Americans.

They cover vast areas of Land often times alone. Alcohol is a big issue on all tribal lands as is drugs and everything a small city or county would have. Some issues will be enforced by the tribal government per the tribe others by state law.

Tribal PDs are like a college department in some ways. Equipment quality varies with the money as with any department as does the pay

I work there. It's very busy, lots of UOF, warrants, DVs, DUIs, PIs, Homicides,Suicides, etc. Up until 2010 when TLOA was implimented the rez was a very very violent place. I've come across ofcs who have drawn on average at least once a shift. You're cross certified through azpost, gila river, and BIA. In reference to moparfan our pd is just barely getting grants for body cam funding. However, some of the more lucrative advantages besides the cross certification is the take home vehicles, benefits, and overall experience gained. Three years with Gila River is equivalent to five on your small town or city agency. Hence why Gilbert PD pulls alot of laterals from the tribe.

Are all officers commissioned by SLEC and what do the ID cards look like?
Not all men can be U.S. Marines that is why there is the Army, Navy and Air Force.

Not all of them are commissioned by SLEC. It is however, a requirement to promote to Sgt. Their IDs look similar to mine...just with the position title modified to Police Officer.

I took a transfer within my current agency so I dropped out of the process.

Congratulations mjw5678. Applicants are in the background stage of the process. To my knowledge none have yet to have their home visit or polygraph appointments scheduled.

Wanted to bump this thread as I am seeing GRPD is hiring again and I am leaning towards tossing an invite and going through the process to see where it goes.

Couple questions not answered on the website I could find:

                              1. ALEA used or another facility?

                              2. Home visit? Sheepdog you mentioned this earlier above.. Obviously during the hiring process, does your BI come out and have a house sit down w/ you? Talk w/ neighbors?

                              3. In the calls for service ration, how busy is the casino beats usually taking it w/ the outlet mall up near the Phx border area? Just curious.
