  • Concealed Carry

Lately when I've been out and about I've been noticing more and more public businesses with no firearms/weapons allowed signs. I was just wondering how this relates to police officers/corrections officers carrying off duty? Also how would it relate to the general public with a CCW? Any insight is appreciated thank you.

The sign doesn't "effect" off duty LEO...but the property owner can still kick the off duty LEO off private property.

However...any business owner or property owner can make you leave sign or no sign. With a properly posted sign the fits the "sign requirement" you can be cited and kicked out.

If your weapon is truly concealed and no one sees or knows you are carrying (except you)...who would know that you are carrying???

Disclaimer - Never ignore signs...only cops and criminals have an inalienable right to bear arms. The rest are called "victims"...without victims cops would be out of a job and criminals would have to get a job ;-)

The law also states that they are supposed to have a place for you to store your weapon if they are not going to allow them in but most people forget about that part.

They forget to give me a place to store my weapon.
I accidentally on purpose forget that I am even carrying.
I guess that makes us even...

If you "forget"...just be sure and leave immediately when asked ;-)

Cuz I don't think "I forgot" is an affirmative defense for Misconduct Involving Firearms" :-)

              oh most definitely.

I would leave while profusely apologizing.

Actually I just avoid those establishments. They very seldom get my business.

Say for instance that you are an everyday civilian with a CCW, and did carry into the establishment with the sign. You were not drinking and another patron pulled a gun/knife or whatever on you. If you were to shoot that person you would be charged with disobeying the sign correct? I just ask because I used to work at an operation that disallowed firearms. The way I understood it was if I did have a firearm, and someone were to try and rob the place I would be in huge trouble if I were to shoot that person. Even if they brandished a gun at me and were going to shoot at me.

Thanks for the insight so far everyone who's posted

Who cares about a simple misdemeaner as long as your alive. Besides, thats if they officers even submit the charges and if the prosecutors even charge it.

Seems to be a little too much thought on this topic. If your a citizen and there is a sign, then dont enter with a gun.

Personally I think the 2nd amendment is all that you should need to carry a firearm in this country, concealed or not (of course with obvious exclusions such as convicted felons, the mentally ill, etc.). But then states wouldn't be able to make millions of dollars issuing permits...damn.

I agree. Dapsy also has a good point. I remember when the signs were starting to go into business. There were alot of people were saying they wouldn't go to those places anymore on the news.

I'm becoming one of those people myself that stops going to places that don't allow citizens to carry, even though I only carry myself about 50/50.
I would imagine the main point of these signs are to prevent criminals from carrying weapons into businesses, but are people so naive that they really think a sign is going to stop some thug at the door, make him put his tool of the trade away, and then go back in and decide not to rob the place? After all, since when did making something illegal stop it from actually happening (Drugs, prostitution, etc.)
BTW: A few months ago I went to the movies and I saw a sign at the front door that said "No Concealed Weapons Allowed" as if anyone who's even half-way decent at concealing a weapon on them self would be spotted my the teenagers working there? What's the point?

Yup, do you really want to do business with such people? I like to think I am punishing them by not doing business with them. Secondly you can't trust them to make a simple decision like this. How can you trust them with your life if anything were to happen while you were in there and unarmed

Does anyone out there that does carry concealed have any experience with the Springfield XD-9 subcompact? From the reviews and articles I've read it seems to be a good concealed carry/backup weapon. Just wanted some info from first hand users.
