You would think ALL of the BS feel good programs, the aides, the assistants, the Governors travel and expense, and all of the duplication of effort jobs would go before ANY Officers were cut.Comment

I called a buddy of mine who is in the know at DPS when I saw this article. According to him, the governor asked DPS what would happen if they had a 15% budget cut and this was the reply. He says it isn't anything under consideration at this time but is floating around.
Personally, when I read the article it looks like the union playing a little chicken little but you never know.Comment

I'll believe it when I see it.....they are a lot of other things that can be cut at DPS other than laying off 250 cops.....just sayingComment

They're already begging and heavily advertising for civilian volunteers for damn near everything - have been for a while. If their budget is cut further, there's no telling what else they'll cut. Only so much money comes from GOHS and that's normally for specific projects/details.
There are certain things the agency is required to do by statute, but most of those do not require mass quantities of officers to accomplish.NRA Life Member

- Hope they can resolve an issue not to lay off any officers. I would rather see my application go down the drain than have to see good officers be laid off, they deserve to keep their careers.

Union's job is to alert the public. That's done through that exasperating number - 250. You think it'd just be the most junior 250 cops, though. Honestly, if it does happen, anyone wanting to get into an academy in Arizona won't stand a chance since agencies will be scooping up these cops.NRA Life Member
