    Sleuth, das its der Mann.

For all that people may say, in the UK or outside, that British officers should be routinely armed, it ain't happening. The current Government treats the Police like we're the sh*t on their shoes, the Labour party, who are inevitably going to win the next general election, like us even us less. My dog has more political influence than our pretend union, the Police Federation. Can't say, on a personal level, that I feel any great need to carry a firearm but it would be nice to think we would be treated like, I don't know, 98% percent of the rest of the world's Police, who do get given that option.

Hey, you are right about the Conservative Party though. How things have changed. When I was a cop in the U.K. back in the 1980 / 90's everyone voted Conservative. Just like everyone in the Armed Forces did, too. It was a 'given' to vote for the party that was on the side of those who served in uniform. Obviously, the left-wing ( Labour Party ) always hated those of us in uniform, and always will. That will NEVER change, as we all know. But I wonder whether the Conservatives have yet realised that between the British Armed Forces and the British Police Service, they have thrown away a voting base of at least HALF A MILLION voters ... men and women who will probably never vote for the Conservatives ever again, as long as they live. Not just those still serving in uniform ( who are feeling the savage cuts, day in and day out ) but those who have retired, and seen their pensions reduced.

I think you'll find it closer to about 75 % actually. It's not just the U.K. that doesn't provide it's Police Officers ( or other Law Enforcement personnel ) with adequate protection. I've travelled the world, widely - mainly training / advising in Border Policing. There are MANY other countries that do not arm their Police Forces, or Law Enforcement Agencies. At least a quarter of the world's countries take this stupidly 'outdated' practice I'm afraid. I say make the politicians go out on the street, for just ONE day, and police the country. They would probably end up having nervous break-downs.

I've been to London. L.E professionals there are super professional to start, One thing that resonated with me was that they do a amazing job doing what they do unarmed. Kudos
