Hi John,
I have applied to the W.A Police although I am a civilian employee (they will probably knock me back!) with the West Yorkshire Police in the UK. I specialise in Imaging, Filming crime scenes, riots / public disorder, surveillance, video enhancements/editing etc. We go out on duty with Police officers on a daily basis and are utilised for anything to do with imaging for the force. Do you have units in W.A.P.O.L similar to this? Do you have to be a police officer?
A link to the W.Y Police website -
Any help would be gratefully received.

How would an Amercian LEO fare there?

G'day G***a, the South Australia Police was recruiting experienced Police Officers from the UK but has now ceased.
For information on recruitment of international applicants by the Western Australia Police, check the Website http://www.stepforward.wa.gov.au.

Hello John
Thanks for that info. A friend of mine has just gone to South Australia police but as I think you mentioned, they have stopped recruiting now. This chap was an Inspector in the UK but joined as a PC over there.
I am in Sydney in November with the family so I am starting to look into the different options. I have never been but got a horrible feeling I will fall in love with the place. (Spent my reckless travelling/backpacking youth in Cape Town and never got to Aussie).

My wife and I are heading off to central Victoria for a few days and here is a photo of one of the towns we will be visiting.

Thanks John.
We are there for 3 weeks so hoping to travel away for a week, probably up to Byron Bay as my wife worked there when travelling many years ago.
The plan was to hire a big comfy car and take our time but we might fly now. My 3 year old son has a habit of saying "wanna go toilet" every 10 miles so flying might be a safer and far quicker/cleaner option.
Whatever we do, I can't wait.

Seems that also officers outside UK are encouraged to apply. Are there already officers from mainland-Europe or Scandinavia working in Australia?
What is the citizens attitude towards foreign officers? Also "local-knowledge" is important for the police. Must take more than half a year to know places, when your new district is in the other side of the world?
