  • New Zealand police

    Hi,

Does anyone know how difficult it is to get on New Zealand police? After the kids are gone, I'd love to retire down there. But would it be impossible to go from US cop to New Zealand PD? I'm sure the Glock would be sorely missed, but I'm curious about the opportunity.

You'd have to be a citizen or have permanent residency.

As far as I know, there is no 'international transition' available for NZ; at least for US officers.

Here's the info you'll need to become a citizen http://www.dia.govt.nz/New-Zealand-citizenship

    Or a permanent resident http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...quirements.htm

It'd be worth contacting them directly as well https://www.newcops.co.nz/other/contact Hopefully you can leave the region part blank.

Thanks for the info! Guess I'll have to work on my citizenship packet.... Haha. Maybe I can figure out how to get down there before too long.

NZ have done a few international transfer campaigns in the past. Mainly from the UK and Aus, but an old teammate of mine who is now there says that a couple of other nationalities snuck in along the way as well.

Finances obviously dictate this, but if you're thinking long term it wouldn't hurt to contact them.
I think it's still glocks they are armed with there as well!

They might have access to Glocks, but they're routinely unarmed. The average officer there doesn't carry a firearm on them, but has it stored in their vehicle instead.
