So not to take away from serious injury and such but, why in the world was a man with so much money driving a 1997 Nissan maxima?

Inconspicuousness -- he's the kind of guy that prefers to keep a low profile most of the time. I hope he fully recovers. I think he's a really good guy.

Agreed. Besides, what's wrong with a 1997 Nissan Maxima? I've done business with a mega-millons customer who drove a 1967 VW 'Bug', and enjoyed the hell out of it. It's the 'old money' vs, 'new money' mentality. But that's a subject for another thread.

He's a great guy. Owns a big ranch/farm that he WORKS on in his free time. I'm sure the '97 Maxima was to stay "low key".

I wish him a quick recovery.

Morgan Freeman is probably one of the better actors out there, I truly wish him the best and a full recovery.

              http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,397721,00.html

Donna Lee, Freeman's publicist, said the Oscar-winning actor has a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage "but is in good spirits." Lee said "The Dark Knight" star is expected to make a full recovery.
“He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point,” McFerrin said.

Do you know what Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart, (10x richer than Freeman....at least) drove?

                Do some research on that.

If I were rich, I'd probably be driving something similar to what Freeman was driving.

But you can still stay low profile in a nicer older car.... doesn't have to be luxury but 97 maximas suck. Freeman is one of my favorite actors, i wish him a speedy recovery.

You're my kinda of guy, chit. I'd think you'd be driving what you're driving now, as I would. Money doesn't impress me. It did when I was young and stupid. Now, that I'm old and stupid, I realized it's all self-delusional. I've gotten tired of bullsh*tting myself.

^My thing, Stormy, is that I had to completely switch my mentality regarding finances.... I did this around age 23 (only 2 years ago). I suppose this is how most people figure it out (or how they USED TO... not so much these days).

I went from the mentality of "What can I buy with my next paycheck?!"

                      to...

"How can I invest this extra $150? Save, save, save...."

I'm now one of those guys who is literally ticked if I don't put something into my savings every single payday.

I went from saying "If I had a million bucks, I'd have this, this, this, this.... blah, blah, blah"

                      to...

"If I had a million bucks, I'd turn it into $20 million....And I'd do it in less than 10 years."

The car wasn't his. It belonged the person he was driving with, who received minor injuries...

And I think one flawed thing people assume is that all rich people are materialistic and need the newest, most expensive things just because they can obtain them. Thats not always the case. Good money management is something that should be considered whether you have $100 to your name or $100 million...

Morgan Freeman is probably in my top 10 actors to watch. As far as being low key... This is where you older guys can point and say "MY POINT EXACTLY!"
At 19 I was working in a Stone Quarry operating heavy machinery clearing about $980/wk. At 19 living at home with no real bills bahaha I had a brand new dodge 3500 diesel big tires and loud country music coming from the inside. That truck was good to me until I got laid off... Then I had to sell the truck and most of my other toys... Now I'm a tight wad... I drive my mothers old beater car and just stock pile money in the bank, IRA's, and I've been looking at the stock market... I'm a little concerned about doing that myself.
