I Like Thomspon I was hoping he'd run , and very happy he finally decided to. Yes he had a rocky start in the Debate, but it's still pretty early so we'll see. AHis Voting Record in the senate gets an A- for me, the one downside was his support of McCain-Fiengold..other than that I think he'd make a good candidate. He has the face and name recognition from the TV and movies, he has the OCnservative Creds from his time in office, and the Ron Paul-ites and the Radical Right Dont like himbecause they see him as an "Insider" The fact that everyone on BOTH sides is trying so hard to marginalize him (Dems say he's no different than Bush, and the Republicans say he's lazy) shows that they're worried about him.

        Republican Primary

First, I want to thank my fellow LEO's for taking the time to express an opinion on the Presidential race. I don't think there has ever been a more critical time in our Nation's history where the stakes in a Presidential race are enormous. Anyone who thinks otherwise, simply does not understand the threat(s) to our very existance as a free nation.

All politcs aside (social issues) that is, the Commander in Chief of our Nations fighting forces is extremely critical, and we desperately need someone with not just experience, but someone that has the moral compass in which to guide/direct our military. All the other "hats" that the President of the United States wears is secondary to that.

Having said that, I believe that Duncan Hunter is the ONLY candidate in the race BAR NONE, meets ALL of necessary criteria to not only fulfill the role of Commander in Chief, but ALL the other roles as well.

Please take the time to look at all the options on the table, and I am sure that when you do, you will agree with me on this.

        David

          Kpdpipes,

Thanks for your input, I think you have the Thompson and Hunter campaigns confused.. The ONLY candidate in the race that the LEFT is worried about is Duncan Hunter, so much so they don't even include his name in many polls in order to give the appearance of lack of support.. this is compounded by the fact that Fred Thompson supporters are playing right into the trap by screaming "Duncan Hunter can't win" ! --- Which is absolute garbage this early in the game.. let's wait and see how the numbers shift as the campaigns move forward. I predict a steady increase in the numbers for Duncan Hunter simply because he really is the best candidate in the race, and as folks take the time to look at the options the choice become very clear... that is what it will take to FORCE the media the give him the time of day.. I invite you to get on board early ! -- beat the crowd !

You Liek Huinter, that's fine..I happen to like Thompson, and was active in the "Draft Fred" campaign, i'm not planning on changing my stance anytime soon. If Hunter wins the Primary, then i'm sure i'll vote for him. But as i said im set as far as the NJ primary is concerned this tiem around.. Enough that i'm switching from Independant (even though the state wont allow me to go back to being "Independant" registered, to voet int he Primary in February..for Thompson. Good Luck with your candidate.

              Kpdpipes,

A lot of Fred Thompson supporters that I know have indicated to me that they WILL vote for Duncan Hunter IF they see his poll numbers improve to the point where they think he has a chance to win...

I know this is a hypothetical and all, but I am just curious how far you are willing to go with this, just to get an idea of the "big picture" of the PRIMARY.. I know that a lot of folks are committed to "their guy" in the race... and that's great... however I can't help but at least THINK about the big picture..

My hypothetical question is THIS.... IF come election day the polls indicate that Duncn Hunter is the front runner, and Fred Thompson is trailing behind Guliani.. Will you then vote for Fred Thompson and give Guliani the nomination or vote for Duncan Hunter and defeat Guliani?

I look foward to your response..

              David

I am mostly concerned about electability. I chose Rudy because I think he is the most electable guy out there---followed very closely behind Fred Thompson.

Sure, I don't agree with Rudy on all the issues (and yes of course he's a liberal republican blah blah blah) but I sure as heck don't agree with Mrs. Clinton in general and am totally against Hillarycare 2.0 and any other socialistic ideas that roam around in her head.

How about Giuliani/Thompson '08 ticket? That would rock!!!

There are of course others out there within the republican field who would be fine Pres/VP nominees.

Rudy's "electability" ends at the PRIMARY -- I am afraid to say that if the Republican Party selects Guliani as its nominee we WILL end up with Hillary.. Many Christian/Conservative voters WILL NOT "hold their nose" and vote for Rudy.. those days are OVER I am afraid.... At this early stage in the game we should ALL get behind the Duncan Hunter, and FORCE the media to cover him, then we will see just how "electable" he is..

Republicans-lie to the poor, give to the rich...

you guys are GLUTTONS for punishment- just goes to show that people who don't remember "history" are doomed to repeat it.everyone is whining this Anti -hillary clinton B.S. but they comfortably overlook how SH*TTY life for the avg working citizen has become under the 20 yrs of Reagan-Bush -Bush Jr rule; the Republican party has literally ground out anything resembling a middle class, 40 million people in this country can't afford basic medical care, big business has enjoyed MORE tax cuts while shipping more jobs over seas( I had to watch as hundreds of folks I know lost jobs and homes after 9/11 yet the corporate mgrs and CEOs pockets got fatter), and we have a 10 trillion dollar deficit now, with the ONLY plan by conservatives is to CUT further social services, like aid to public schools, local gov'ts ,soc security (which alot of your grand parents need to make it on) and even VET benefits to people who are out and fighting this WAR on terrorism.you guys will vote for any fool who "Yells" family values and waves the american flag, instead of thinking -"hey" we've got to pay to clean up that deficit! hey ,WHY isn't BIG BUSINESS paying its fair share of taxes? hey ,the # of poor are growing and service jobs like Walmart aren't exactly a career choice my kids should be locked into!" Maybe if sensible Republicans like mitt romney or even McCain were the ONLY real choice,I'd say GO "conservatives"-but sorry, the Democrats and Goofy hillary clinton MAKE alot more sense right now, given the last 20 yrs of blatant STUPIDITY and abuse of the avg working American. Stop for a second and turn off FOX news-then really look at the issues! your eyes will "open" and you'll see the LIE that been pulled over your heads like a pillow case. This country is truly heading for financial disaster-the same greed the Hoover administration sat and did NOTHING about in the late 20s-funny but the best time in history was the hard work that the Democrats did to save this nation and the World- from 1932 to 1948; the second accomplishment was was from '60 to '68, and the clinton admin from '94-2000 .If a Demo was in the whitehouse, rabid conservatives would be out howling for blood on how badly the economy and the war in Iraq has been handled, ditto the series of nat'l disasters in the midwest and the gulf states.

Every major nation in the world has a national health care program- definitely NOT perfect, but far better than what we have when 1/7 americans CAN'T go to the doctor cause they have to choose between eating and paying for care. The doctors aren't to blame- its the major corps that are getting rich ,and the americans that have health care are being SQUEEZED yrly to make due with less and less choices.currently the united Auto workers union is being FORCED to take LESS benefits, while ford,GM et al make more profits. In Japan ,auto workers HAVE decent medical care, and their companies provide it for them!!!! socialized medicine is LONG overdue in this country! it will control costs ,making it cheaper for the avg family( you will still have the option of buying MORE insurance or medical care),and its cheaper than whats going on right now. but hey- keep voting for people who use you like toilet paper !!! keep voting for people who use jingo ism and slogans about "loving america" to lull you into making the world safe for saudi oil interests, crushing workers Unions ,and depriving our public schools-once the ENVY of the modern western world. Its these folks, not "liberals" who want the borders open so that the grimey faced illegal aliens can pour into this country( cheap labor spells for bigger profits of corporations). The current regime has pushed this country to near facism, yet all folks here can cry about is "socialism"- the Democrativ party has never been and will NEVER be socialist( it has and WILL ALWAYS stand for TRUE American Rights and liberties-SOMETHING THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HASN'T DONE Since Teddy Roosevelt),but if giving a damn about the Avg working american, from farmer to factory worker is more important over the rich and priviledged- I'm proud to be on their side.............

republican whenits "working", democrat when its "broken"- right now,the system is hideously BROKEN,and no dogmatic rhetoric ,republican or democrat is going to get it fixed-we need a REAL plan. The democrats are talking about getting out of that disaster called "iraq",as well as shoring up alot of failing social infrastructure- social security, public health-stuff that made our country alot better place to live.Every time this is brought up, big business conservative pundits scream B.S. like "socialism" or are actually dumb enough to goad people into believing that things like further deregulation of business is going to make things better- over the long haul they DON'T.(quick lowered rates during the "honeymoon" phase ,then the priv. compaines slam on the prices THEY want)

The republicans screwed the proverbial poodle in the last 8 yrs ,so out they have to go.Republicans screamed for literally a firing squad for "ol'Slick willy"(bill clinton ) for getting a BJ from a page ,then wanted a witch burning for the clintons badly invested "whitewater" scam, yet have been happily silent over "dum'ya" many failed and disasterously managed business dealings (nearly a billion dollars )before he became pres.( I forgot- "thats the way business goes",oh well); Bush made a bogus excuse for attacking Iraq- a weakened nation that has cost more than 4,000 U.S. and allied troopers lives,as well as nearly 250,000 iraqis, further destabilizing the region( Iran has had a key THREAT removed when we helped depose then hang Saddam;only Israel has the balls to go up against them in the region).Clinton pardoned two FELONS-edgar and Vonna Jo Gregory for fed fraud, and the NEO CONS SCREAMED AND HOWLED- dum'ya pardons "good ol' boy scooter Libby" for LYING to a federal grand jury and the FBI and its okay, sez' the neocons-"scooter "didn't mean it",forgive and forget 'cuase its a "good thing"; ditto that the scam artists at Enron ,who screwed alot of working folks out of their pensions. 8 yrs of F'ing up,20 yrs of making the working poor and the backbone of this country the fall guy for whats "wrong" with this Country.

The current batch of Repub front runners are little more than "yes' men who want to carry on the same failed policies ;as long as they yell " no big taxes"( which ,bro rt. now we are going to get hit with as this nation is SEVERELY in a financial bind), no gay marriage ( who cares what someone else does in their own house-or what a "republican family values supporter" does in a airport bathroom) and no abortion (who's gonna' take care of these unwed mothers? oh,let me guess they can get jobs working at Walmart !!)-they think they have the ANSWER to americas woes ! ask me if i'm a "liberal"- no,not really.but I am proud to be DEMOCRAT,UNION and WORKING CLASS....

Bumping this thread up because DOA just had me thinking on how my life and career will be from now and the next 25 years and almost had me crying .

If we keep going down this path i think USA will go down into some real dark times.

Thanks for the back up "jellybean". FWIW i don't hate the republicans- you need them every now and then to even the keel of this nation.California has actually worked well with republican governors-they tighten the reigns on our sometimes spending/wasteful craze.I just hate the idea that the republicans have somehow modelled themselves as the party of the "working man" while they have systematically eroded the very system workers fought for to make this country better( the AFL CIO, the teamsters, the ILWU have buried far too many and seen far too many in their history with skulls bashed in so that the avg american could look at a decent wage to allow the party of the "priviledged" claim that they represent the workers).the most arrogant thing a gov't official -no matter what party- can do is fail to admit he/she made a BAD decision;Bush was WRONG about Iraq, but refuses to except it,nor does he care about the consequences to our economy, our reputation to the rest of the world.right now people are scared of us,and NOT in the right way.russia and china are burying the proverbial hatchet and trading advanced weapons technology, Pakistan and turkey are waivering between staying our allies or supporting their "muslim" neighbors, the europeans are doing everything they can to boycott or protest against us,and 2nd world nations like India are changing their strategic goals to include potential conflicts with us.Yet the republican party are steadfast sticking to this myopic view of the world-almost like the "Sith" of the fictional star wars series- "you are either with us or against us".this isn't exactly the time for it when china and the dubious saudis could flood the market with all that surplus U.S. currency they hold, which would seriously deflate our ecomony as badly as if a major city were hit with a nuclear weapon.

During this administration we have gone from a debt holding nation to the worlds largest Debtor nation, yet instead of saying things are bad,our conservative bros continue to blow smoke like "nothings wrong". If ever we needed a Roosevelt,or Kennedy like we once had- now is the time. Its so sad that Hillary nor edwards, nor Kucinich or Obama can have the intestinal toughness to call the republicans (and even their fellow cowed democrats) on some of their failings, withstand alot of muckslinging, then gain the support of the people who need the change the most- mr and mrs US ctzn......
