  • Great way to show support for officer

Here in Qld. Australia we have an officer who has been charged over a death in custody. Without going into too much discussion over the situation (much of which has to do with politics!) I do want to comment on the support by his fellow officers.

The Police Union came up with the great idea of officers showing support by buying a blue arm arm with his registered number on it ($5) to help with funds whilst he is stood down without pay and in a quiet way to make own protest.

It was such a success they sold out in under 3 days. I thought it might be an idea to share with other unions/associations who need to show support for members who also find themselves in difficult situations.

Are there any news articles on the net concerning this officer?

That is a wonderful idea. When one of our guys was on the carpet first in court against the agency for excessive use of force (which he was later found not guilty). But still not back on the job. Scared the heck out of all of us. Many officers finally decided professional liability insurance was a necessity. This poor officer is now in a legal battle with the agency for not allowing him back to work. The first round brought triple digit legal fees and he lost his house etc. Hopefully eventually he will get a settelment that will pay his legal fees and a comfortable living. I am sure he wont feel comfortable coming back to work after all the legal battles.
