The article says that he asked for the protection because he has received numerous threats and wants the extra security.

I suppose the Secret Service will give protection to you if you ask for it and you are a possible presidential nomination for your party.
This show is awesome, wrapped in supercool and smothered in bitchin. The only way it could be cooler is if he was riding a unicorn or something.

I'm torn. I don't think he should be receiving it but if there have been CREDIBLE threats then the gov has a duty to protect him.

There's really no reason why a private security detail can't handle this though.

I like Cain, but Im not for him getting protection by the Secret Service. He is one of many candidates in the field. When the USSS protects someone, they dont half *** it. This is going to cost some coin. Hire a private security firm to address your needs. Save the Secret Service for candidates the people have chosen.
Im sure the other candidates would love to be spending their money on campaign ads instead of the private security they are no doubt paying big bucks for out of their own campaigns.

          1. He’s being threatened, so much so to the existent that they feel he needs SS.

          2. He applied for SS, in which he was approved for because these threats are credible enough.

          3. It’s not gonna cost him ANYTHING.

          4. Obama also was issued SS just like Cain.

We know that. The discussion was regarding using tax payer funds to protect one member of a pretty large pool of candidates who has yet to win any elections. There is actually a pretty large pool of people running for President. If your going to run for President, I think you need to provide for your own security until at least the first round of elections. There are actually 175 candidates filed to run for President in 2012. I wonder what would happen if any one of the others had a threat on their life?

This is the same routine every year. It's really foolish that the national parties don't have security plans and staff at hand for their candidates. Each party can be issued a government liaison (FBI, SS, whatever) to disseminate credible threats and coordinate with locals. There's plenty of highly capable security firms out there.

This would not be complicated for people who do it for a living.

Nothing new or unusual- this happens all of the time with candidates.

You haven't heard? Both parties secretly merged and both love sucking the governments tits to get our hard earned money.

Cool, just what we need. More Government spending from someone who wants us to cut Government spending.

How about he just drop out of the damn race? He has no shot at winning.

The idea is to stay in as long as you can to figure out who the nominee is going to be, then you endorse the guy who is going to win in hopes for a cabinet seat.

Or, you can insult your opponent and claim on national TV that you would rather see the opposing party win instead of the guy you lost to and end up sliding in as VP. I heard that works pretty well too.
