  • An Honest Question about our Pay

    Think back and be honest.........

On the day you graduated from the academy, if someone had walked up and offered you four times the pay to work somewhere else doing something else, what would you have said?

I think we aughta keep the answer in clear focus when we complain about how awful our plight is with pay cuts and benefit reductions, etc.

    Just sayin ..........

Well I didn't have a job out of the Academy but

If I wanted to get rich I would of gone into a different field.

There is more to life than just money.
This show is awesome, wrapped in supercool and smothered in bitchin. The only way it could be cooler is if he was riding a unicorn or something.

No thank you ...not interested.........this is/was the best job on earth. Would not change a thing.
This profession is not for people looking for positive reinforcement from the public. Very often it can be a thankless job and you can't desire accolades, because those are not usually forthcoming. Just do your job to the best of your ability and live with the decisions you've made.

I was offered a job as security at a nuke power station as QRF. This was in 1980. I had a contract with my pd to work for them for a year because they paid for my academy. During the academy I had to work night shift on weekends.

I remember starting one job at $600 month. Then they took $250 out for insurance.
Hell, I worked for departments for years without being certified. Ahh the good old days. lol!

I worked for 6 years full time, then went back to a previous employer for 13 years(reserved for those 13)(while the kiddos were young) then came back and have been on for 16 more.

I am desperately trying to take a pay cut to become a LEO so I can do something that matters.

I am quite certain that what you do matters - probably a lot more than police work. But yes indeed, I did the same thing for the actiion and intensity. Nothing else comes close.

Wear a gun and drive fast! I would have paid them if I could.

Depends on the job, it would be nice to not have to worry about paying the bills but if its a job I'm not a fan of then I'll pass.

You have to define something else. If it was 4times more to scrape poo out of a big tank (as seen in lest weeks undercover boss) then hell no. If it was 4 times more to be an action sports film helicopter pilot then hell yes.

Do I like my job, yes. Would I leave it for something that paid 4 times more, maybe, depends on the job.

Nope, nope, and double nope. It's a front row seat to the best show on the earth.
Sometimes, doing the right thing means p***ing off the bosses.

FOUR times?! Hell yes, not even close, no question, no hesitation. Seriously, four times the pay? That makes it too easy to answer that question.
