  • George W. Bush Secretly Visits Fort Hood Victims

The Bushes entered and departed the sprawling military facility in secret, having told the base commander they did not want press coverage of their visit, a source told Fox News.

Former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura secretly visited Fort Hood last night and spent "considerable time" consoling those who were wounded in Thursday's shooting spree, Fox News has learned.

The Bushes entered and departed the sprawling military facility in secret, having told the base commander they did not want press coverage of their visit, a source told Fox News.

The couple was described as "deeply concerned" about military families on Fort Hood after Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly opened fire on soldiers and civilians, killing 13 and wounding 38.

The Bushes, who have a 1,600-acre property known as Prairie Chapel Ranch less than 30 miles from Fort Hood in central Texas, spent between one and two hours visiting the wounded and their families.

Despite my user name, I have no doubt their concern is sincere.

Kudos to Bush for doing the right thing and not trying to gain attention in the press for it....

This was indeed something I think those soldiers and their family appreciated.

President Bush has been, and always will be, a stand-up guy. I truly respect him as both a person and a POTUS. I'd vote for him again in a heartbeat.

43 is a good caring man and Laura is a sweet kind hearted woman. One day history will reflect President Bush in the favorable light that he deserves.

Bush finally made a good decision! Mark that down everyone. Good man Horrible president! There can be a difference.

It's a sad day when service men and women have to look over their shoulders on american soil, because one of their own is mentally unstable.

True, but how can you really keep a thing like that secret after the fact? The secret was before, so it didnt turn into a media event, and no press op photos were released, that the secret. You cant expect the story not to get out, all you can do is keep it quiet til after its over.

Didn't always agree with him as President but this has nothing to do with that. Very honorable and respectable thing he did. Speaks to the type of man he is, kudos...

Bush frequently met with the families of our fallen soldiers. He frequently did so without photos to document his show of concern and without the press pool. Of course it became public knowledge after the fact. Still, he continued to do it without fanfare and publicity. He didn't do it for political reasons. He did it because he thought it the right thing to do.

I didn't agree with him on some of his decisions though I did with most of them.
I think very Highly of the Man as a leader and one of untouchable morales and values and with Laura even more so.
God Bless them for showing their concern and love for those poor souls. The Bushes are a class act.
