A CBO estimate puts the cost of this at $1,055 billion, though this estimate somehow fails to even take into account the impact of the rule changes regarding pre-existing conditions.

It's a pretty hefty bill to plow through. I've been kind of wrapped up with a grassroots group for the last several weeks as we attempt to generate enough supporters to fight it. Grassroots stuff takes up a bunch more time than I had thought. But locally, we seem to be making some headway. Somehow though, I don't think the desire of voters will have a major impact on whether or not this passes.

I just skimmed the first few pages as it is late. From what I saw there it looks like nothing new. In addition to DMV medicine, it creates a combination health care and welfare plan . They claim over 80% of businesses will be exempt from participating along with low income individuals. Gee, I wonder who will pay for their care?

As far as unemployment goes, I guess we ain't seen nothin yet. When you combine the extra expense big companies are going to have to pay when the plans eliminate preexisting conditions/annual caps/lifetime caps with the extra expense of paying for the care of the 80+% of exempt businesses, and then add to that exempt individuals, I have a sneeking suspicion that "outsourcing" is going to skyrocket.

But hopefully the fear of the unemployment line for blue dog Dems may set in deep now that VA and NJ has elected Rep Govs. Maybe they will now fear their constituents more than the Madam-of-the-House and dirty Harry.
